Acerca de esta escucha

Two frenemies find a surprising second chance in this timeslip rom-com, starring Mae Whitman (Parenthood), Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant), and a full cast.

Mona and Duncan used to be best friends. Now they can’t stand each other. Too bad that’s not a good enough excuse to miss their two families’ annual trip to the cabin. But things get really complicated when they accidentally drive through a wormhole together on the way. Look what playing nice and carpooling gets you.

Now they’re stranded indoors by an epic storm and stuck in an alternate timeline where things are just slightly ... off. Duncan and his dad aren’t speaking for reasons no one knows, Mona’s mom doesn’t like her hair or her career choices, and their siblings are meddlesome as ever.

Oh, yeah, and apparently they're going through a divorce. Which means that in this universe they are married. To each other.

All they can really do is play along until they figure out how to get back to the real timeline. How hard can it be—they already hate each other, don’t they? But figuring out how exactly Mona and Duncan managed to fall epically in love with one another—and then break each other’s hearts—is easier said than done. Navigating all these big feelings is leading to new ones, but are they destined to hurt each other in any universe? And what happens to this new relationship when they’re back to their old lives?

Editorial Review

One road trip, two timelines.
Cara Bastone’s latest is the kind of clever, heartfelt rom-com that had me smiling one minute and tearing up the next. Better Luck Next Time follows Mona and Duncan—former best friends-turned-reluctant road-trip companions—as they get stranded in an alternate timeline where they’re married, heading toward divorce, and stuck confronting the messy “what-ifs” of their relationship. The full-cast narration, led by Mae Whitman and Colin Woodell, brings all the emotion, humor, and tension to life, complete with original songs that make the story even more immersive. If you love characters who fight their way back to each other across timelines, this one’s not to be missed.—Patty R., Audible Editor

I really love Cara Bastone’s stories, usually. I love romance and I really like a lot of sci-fi. But I don’t think this combo is really up her alley. It’s chaotic and silly and I really didn’t feel a connection with the main characters. The fmc was particularly annoying. I do like a slow burn but I felt no burn here. I will say I am grateful there was no explicit sex. It is hard to find good romance that isn’t over spiced or religious. But she has managed intense emotional investment before. I truly hope she moves to a different storyline next.

This may be my favorite type of audible book, the dual narration is amazing! The story line was fantastic and who doesn't love a good friends to enemies to lovers type of story. Lots of laugh out loud moments too.

Fantastic narration

I’ll listen to anything Cara writes. Fun and breezy story. The best part is when the characters are learning about themselves. It’s the perfect opportunity to examine your own life, thoughts, choices. Her writing is perfect. These actors were just fine, but I miss Alex Finke’s voice performance from some of Cara’s other work.

This was so fun to listen to. I loved the different voices and all of the sound effects. It felt like watching a movie without the picture. The story in general was cute and I enjoyed the various character relationships, but I did not personally enjoy the other dimension/sci-fi type story line.

Loved the production, story not my favorite

This was a cute story, not great but ok. I like Audible Originals with multiple narrators which is why I spent the time to listen to this.

You had me a Mae Whitman. Colin Woodwell was also fabulous. Enjoyed this fun story. Cara Bastone writes real life characters that are easy to relate with.

Fun, quick listen.

Most books’ narrators bug me and this didn’t buck the trend. Do real females all prattle on with that snarky, shallow manner?

The story was mildly entertaining. The worm hole characters were overdone. That’s about it.

Characters are over dramatic and too emotional. It was hard to listen / finish. Would not recommend.
