Four friends

A deserted island

And an undead nightmare they can’t escape

Living on the streets of Oklahoma, Brian Williams is haunted by a long history of personal failures. But he’s offered one last chance to repair his broken past.

A mysterious organization is recruiting test subjects for a scientific experiment. Participants will receive a generous cash reward, more than enough for Brian to finally rebuild his life. Along with a handful of his homeless friends, Brian jumps at the opportunity. But there’s a catch.

To earn the reward, Brian and his motley crew must hike through the jungle of a faraway deserted island…while something unspeakable and relentless hunts them down.

A hellish, undead nightmare awaits Brian and his friends, deep in the jungle, when their casual hike turns into a bloody, desperate quest for survival. Will they make it out alive?

Great introduction to an exciting new series!

This novella serves as an introductory chapter to an incoming series. I look forward to catching up on the next two novellas. The story is a unique and intriguing setting which encourages the reader to keep going in search of answers. The characters are likable and endearing. This is an exciting story that keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very end. We’ll done, Nic Roads!

Better Dead than Red

Another great story from Nic Roads! I have always wondered what would make someone purposely create zombies! For whatever reason I am looking forward to reading more Zombie Vale stories!

Nic is killing it!

I loved Dom of the Dead. It gave us our first taste of what Nic was serving. Delicious! Then he drops BDTR on us! Wow! The use of setting, characters and plot drag us kicking and screaming from our lovely Dom to a tropical island of absolute terror and still manages to fill our hearts with love. Brian and Shin grew on me quickly. Their plight makes them very sympathetic people. You want them to make it. New information is gathered by us. We see the evil conspiracy as it blooms. Get! This! Book! The final piece of the beginning of Zombie Vale is coming soon! Skeeeee!

Red is a Fun Read

'Better Dead than Red' is a fun zombie adventure with all the bells and whistles. An evil corporation has taken a group of homeless people to a deserted tropical island so they can conduct pharmaceutical tests outside of any ethical oversight. A few of the test subjects are able to escape as their compatriots are converted into the hungry, undead! The survivors race through the jungle trying to escape the pursuing zombies, find help or at least someplace safe to hide. The zombies, of course, are hot on their trail. Good character development and compelling situations add to the drama.

Art Brown does well with the narration on the Audible version. Minor critique - One of the characters is an older man who Brown voices in a way that sounds like "Tigger" and because of this, his side kick starts to sound like "Piglet". After this occurred to me I couldn't unsee Tigger and Piglet running through the jungle escaping the zombies.

Do not take the 3 star score as a negative, this book is a good offering by author Nic Roads. Not deep or intellectually stimulating, but fun and provides the expected thrills. Also, it is fairly short so a great read for a rainy day at the beach or a snowy day by the fire.
