If you’re someone with a goal to write a children's book, then look no further. This is the audiobook for you!

Bingham does a superb job laying the groundwork of what makes a great children's book. What resonated with me the most from start to finish is that in order to write a children's book, the reader/writer must put aside their “adult thinking” and take on the mindset and imagination of a child. Another key takeaway? Make every word count.

Narrator Lynnda Nelson engages the reader by maintaining a confident, upbeat tone throughout the audiobook, her voice never lagging or veering off with disinterest.

Excellent resource for writing a children's book

If I were to endeavor to write my very first children’s book, In Opening the Gate to New Worlds: How to Write a Book Children Will Treasure by Lauren Bingham would be an invaluable guide and resource that I would repeatedly refer to. From bringing the reader back to their own childhood to breaking down concepts and recommendations by age group to providing writing exercise prompts and encouragement to new writers and beyond, the author provides a plethora of detailed guidelines for successfully writing a children’s book that will appeal to the intended audience. The author connects with and keeps the reader’s attention with bits of encouragement and humor along the way, utilizing a number of different analogies throughout the book that help the reader connect with and understand the various concepts introduced in each section. The narrator was perfect for this type of book and was a joy to listen to, bringing the words to life off the page as if the author herself were having a conversation with a fellow writer. While I’ve definitely contemplated the idea of writing a couple of non-fiction, memoir-style books in the past geared towards adults, In Opening the Gate to New Worlds: How to Write a Book Children Will Treasure has definitely peaked my interest in potentially writing a children’s book someday. I would highly recommend this resource to anyone contemplating writing a children’s book for the very first time.
