Tiberius has one chance to claim a power his bloodline was never meant to touch.

A thousand years after the apocalypse, Entropy keeps most of the world trapped behind swords, horses, and fire. Only the Towers can push back the chaos and restore lost technology.

The greatest of these relics are the Gridsuits: living armor that bonds to a chosen fighter, turning them into a weapon of war. In Boston, one such armor needs a new wearer, and a brutal tournament will decide who is worthy.

Eleven noble heirs have trained their entire lives to win.

Tiberius, a merchant's son, has not.

A sickly childhood stole years of training from him, making his father's riches his only way of entering the contest, yet he's common enough to be hated for it. And the rankings put him exactly where his rivals expect:

Dead last.

Then his first trial begins, and his vision floods with levels, attributes, and progression paths.

Perfect for fans of Iron Prince , Quest Academy , and Red Rising.

I purchased this book not knowing what to expect because there weren’t any reviews yet, but not only did it end up being worth the credit, it is honestly one of the top books in the genre that I’ve read in a while. I couldn’t put it down after starting, so if you’re looking for a book to pick up in the meantime, I definitely recommend it. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Beyond my expectations

The concept that the this is a retelling for posterity, from the narrators perspective sometime in the future, fails completely.

It switches between first and third person and the narrator sometimes chimes in with "context" but it's meaningless and half the time the following first person scene explains the "context" very clearly and the narrators insert is just wrong or misleading. Alternately the first person perspective will make statements as if they are factual when they are just random internalized thoughts with no objective filter.

Just nobody who is writing a memoir would tell a story like this. This is clearly written in a way to highlight drama and not to provide clear understanding to people who might want a record for historical purposes. Since that is the lazy conciet the author is using as a reason to have a third person narrator it annoys me.

The general story is pretty good it's a standard variation of the tournement of champions origin story, with some mildly interesting world building.

some serious issue but passable good

After a 7 book slump this one broke it. It’s nice that it just throws you right into an actually interesting tournament arc. Theres a complex world set up here and I’m looking forward to seeing where they go with all of this.

Pretty cool world

I wonder what kind of person you are author. "you'll need to demand they consult the oracle" and then mc pretends he didn't hear that for SEVERAL MINUTES just to wax dramatic in my ear for again SEVERAL MINUTES the tension there was not fun. it was annoying. Im actualy still waiting for this manufactured and forced scenario to play out. from start to finish im still waiting and waiting. im falling asleep waiting. honestly perhaps you shouldnt have had the voice say that. because from what im hearing its not even going to play out or be of use. perhaps your planning on having it come up in a meeting the next day? would've been better if he just spouted it. and then the priests were like 0.0 and then they did consult the oracle and the oracle (whom im assuming never actualy talks to them) actualy answers and creates a cool moment. but no we get to and I cant beleive im still saying this WAIT its still going.... meatless yammering. self affirmations. waffling. honestly this is a released book. with a whole narrator. and its jammed together with .... wait is this for kids? am I wrong for wanting a little more quality?

update: the Mc did it again. its like that particular phrase is in one ear and out the other. mc is dumb as a brick

curious

The MC has two states of mind, arrogant and full of himself or whining, sulking, and convinced he is doomed and the world is out to get him. Halfway through the book I thought there would be a surprise harem romance for some reason but at the end that lead to a twist that was cliche and painted the MC as pathetic and an idiot. Seriously, I think the author wanted a pathetic protagonist that, though hardship, changes and grows into a respected hero... except forgot to write the parts where lessons are learned and heroic qualities are developed. What a huge waste of my time.

Yeah... no
