An Artist’s Obsession. A Woman’s Undoing.

How far would one go for self-expression?

Harlan McCandles is a master of color, a virtuoso of form. But beneath the art professor’s facade lies a darker palette of history. When a married Patience Okoye steps into his world, she becomes Harlan’s latest fixation. But as their lessons deepen, the compulsion to keep her under his thumb increases. Patience begins to notice strange habits, including a repetition of pet names he has for her. While with a stroke of a brush, Harlan slowly paints her life with manipulation and chaos. What will the final brush stroke reveal when simply being his inspiration doesn’t suffice?

Dive into unsettling fiction: a twisted narrative of psychological power dynamics building to a thrilling conclusion. Follow Patience on her journey to escape Harlan’s clutches and watch as the suspense bleeds through the pages.

What a twisty, twist of a mindbending show. Played this one on the big screen with my homegirls and we were glued to the spot, hunny! I usually just read Urban Fiction but wanted to give my girl Ada a try.

Favorite minor characters: The students, Neisa, (Needed more of her by the way!) That one college student talking about Black lives matter, Kenji, Priya, and Darrian's goofy self.

Now to the Main Characters:
Patience was not always an easy character to root for, but still you tragically understood her due to her growing loneliness. She cares too much to a fault and it shows. A special education teacher for kids capable of such behavior showing her downfall was really a first for me to read, and it was done so well and believable. Aesha Z. made me absolutely fall in love with her by the time it was all over. That's true talent.

Obinna is too logical for his own good but at the same time, not really. He's got some serious issues too. He's just better at hiding them. Kinda hoped he was more present in the story... but I'm happy to hear this is a series so who knows what will happen next. You forget why him and Patience are even married until... yeah. That part.

Harlan gave me butterflies, chills, and indigestion all at once. Again, I'm more into urban fiction, and this is my first interracial romance plot, and I was here for it. Dan's voice as Professor McCandles did his thing and was very convincing from the get-go but by the end of the story, I was really grossed out by his obsessive behavior. What a creep!

Ada, Aesha and Dan--well done with delivering such a powerful story and just when are we getting the audiobook sequel? I'm waiting.
We all are!

Yes, I have read the three books in this series. But as soon as I found out they were being made into audiobooks? Sign me up! And I was not disappointed. The narrators did an amazing job of bringing Patience and Obinna Okoye, Harlan, and really the entire cast of characters to life.

If you like intense psychological thrillers with twists to the very end, this series is for you!

The story is richly layered with the lives of the characters as well, from Patience’s days as a special ed teacher to her discovery of her artistic ability to her journey through overcoming the shared pain with husband Obinna and learning what it is she truly wants out of life.

Harlan is a complex character with new layers coming to light as the story progresses.

As Patience learns what it truly means to be Harlan’s muse, will she lose herself to the role or find a way to take back control of her destiny?

Phenomenal audio narration of a phenomenal psychological thriller series!

I absolutely adored this book I cannot believe that this book took me 4 days to finish because I honestly love reading my love reading my audiobooks with the physical books so that's why it took me forever but when I was talking with the author she said that it was a mixture of those two with something else and I could see the elements all click and understand me when I say it was like a breath of fresh air

Ada Afam did her big one. No question. For His Muse Only will have you staring at the ceiling and examining your life choices once you're through... as if you were Patience Okoye herself. There were no dry chapters or dull moments, just constant dread throughout the book that something very bad was about to eventually happen to the FMC, due to her many risky encounters with Harlan. And besides the author, narrators have the power to make or break the pacing of the plot too. Aesha successfully creates atmospheric moments of wit, panic, loneliness and lust, all within an impressive range. With Dan voicing the Deeply Troubled Art Professor Harlan, he also manipulates listeners through the sounds waves too, not just Patience. His voice has unique quality that’s comes off inviting with a touch of uncanny smoothness. Fitting for a dark thriller like this one. This trio did a hell of a job!

A thriller drenched in taboos that comes back to haunt you mercilessly.
