  • EP 30: Pornography Promises Intimacy — But Trains Us to Live Without It
    Sep 11 2026

Pornography promises intimacy, but often produces secrecy, shame, isolation, and broken trust. In this episode of Kingdom Friends, Tim and Crystal talk openly about pornography, lust, addiction, marriage, accountability, and recovery. Tim shares from personal experience, while Crystal brings a counseling and pastoral-care perspective on how pornography affects individuals and relationships. They also discuss practical ways to interrupt the cycle: identifying triggers, creating boundaries, delaying the urge, changing your environment, finding accountability, and addressing the deeper needs underneath the behavior. This is not a conversation about condemnation. It is about confession, healing, restoration, and learning to flee temptation instead of trying to fight it alone.

Effective Skills to Stop Pornography Use

Practical strategies for interrupting urges, reducing access, and building healthier patterns

    1. Identify the trigger. Ask: What am I feeling right now? Common triggers include boredom, loneliness, stress, anger,

rejection, fatigue, and sexual arousal. Learn the pattern: trigger → urge → behavior → temporary relief → regret.

    2. Use the 10-minute delay. When an urge hits, commit to doing nothing for 10 minutes. Physically move away from

the device or location. Urges rise and fall; they do not have to be acted upon.

    3. Change the environment. Keep the phone out of the bathroom and bed, charge it outside the bedroom, avoid

isolated internet use during high-risk times, and use appropriate filters or accountability tools.

    4. Have a predetermined replacement. Choose several immediate alternatives before temptation occurs: walk,

exercise, shower, call someone, work on a project, read, pray, or move into a shared space.

    5. Practice urge surfing. Notice the urge without fighting or feeding it: “I am having an urge. I do not have to act on it.”

Notice the sensations, slow your breathing, and allow the intensity to decrease.

    6. Use HALT. Ask: Am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired? Address the underlying need rather than using

    pornography to regulate it.

    7. Build real accountability. Identify a trusted person who can receive a simple message such as, “I am struggling

right now.” Reach out before acting, not only afterward.

    8. Create an emergency plan. Make the response automatic so you do not have to make decisions while the urge is

    strong.

    9. Track patterns—not only streaks. Record the trigger, emotion, urge intensity, response, and outcome. A lapse

provides information about what needs strengthening.

    10. Address the underlying need. If pornography is being used to manage anxiety, loneliness, sleep, emotional

distress, relationship problems, or sexual coping, work on the underlying function as part of recovery.

    Emergency Urge Plan

Put the device down → Stand up → Leave the room → Contact accountability → Do the replacement

activity → Reassess in 15 minutes

  • EP: 29 “I’m taking Him with me.”
    Aug 28 2026

From addiction, homelessness, and a jail cell in Las Vegas to recovery, marriage, ministry, hospice chaplaincy, and pastoral ordination—this is Tim’s testimony. But this story isn’t ultimately about addiction, jail, education, or even recovery. It’s about Jesus Christ and what He can do with a surrendered life. Years ago, a corrections officer warned Tim not to find Jesus in jail only to leave Him there when he was released. Through tears, Tim answered: “I’m taking Him with me.”More than eight years later, by the grace of God, he still is. If you feel too far gone, too broken, or too ashamed for God to use your life, this episode is for you.

  • EP 28: Hope Beyond the Grave
    Aug 21 2026

In this episode of Kingdom Friends, Tim and Jason have an honest conversation about something most of us would rather avoid: death. Drawing from Tim’s experience as a hospice chaplain and Jason’s recent encounters with loss, they talk about grief, dying, healing, heaven, resurrection, and the hope believers have in Jesus Christ. Death is painful. Grief is real. But for the follower of Jesus, death does not get the final word. If you’re walking through loss, facing the death of someone you love, or wrestling with questions about what comes next, this conversation is for you.
