The AI music industry is moving faster than most artists can react. Platforms launch overnight. Terms change quietly. Laws lag behind reality. And everyone argues about whether this is "real" music — while the future gets built without them.

AI Music Revolution cuts through the noise.

Hosted by Josh Gilliland — 30-year Big Tech veteran, 5-star Submithub curator, 200+ track producer, and author of The AI Music Revolution — this weekly briefing is for creators who want to operate like professionals, not hobbyists.

What to expect:

• Market Intel — The truth about Suno, Udio, Bandcamp, and the major moves shaping this space (without the PR spin)

• The Lab — Prompt engineering, DAW mixing, mastering workflows, and professional release standards

• Distribution & Marketing — How to pass the curator test, get playlisted, and actually monetize your catalog

• The Philosophy — Authenticity, authorship, and the hard questions about creativity in the AI era

• Legal Reality Checks — What you own, what you don't, and how to protect your work

This is not a hype show. This is not a "press a button and get famous" fantasy.
It's a tactical briefing for the AI music era.

Join the Revolution. New briefings every week.

Generating music with AI is a legitimate creative tool, and nobody owes an apology for using it. Mastering is the one step Josh won't hand to a machine. This episode explains why, through two stories from this week's blog.

In the first, a comedy song series had a singer who sang straight through every punchline pause. With no stems, the fix had to be cut into the finished stereo master: full stops around three punchlines, each timed differently so the jokes build to the last one, plus five timed pauses in another song. No algorithm knows where the joke is.

In the second, one track in a set was clipping in eighteen places. Streaming normalization only adjusts playback level, and it doesn't repair anything, so all eighteen clips survive the trip to Spotify.

A shortcut sounds like a shortcut.

  • After the Ban: Who’s Actually Listening?

In September, SubmitHub banned pure AI-generated music and rolled out a new genre detector in the same month. Founder Jason Grishkoff then published the results in a post titled "Analyzing September's genre shake-up." This episode walks through his numbers: AI-flagged submissions dropped 57 percent by count and fell from 14 percent of all submissions to 6.5 percent, while submissions that weren't AI-flagged rose 2.8 percent.

Josh covers what that means if you're an AI-assisted artist with finished songs, then gives you three questions to ask any curator, playlist, or submission service before you pay: Does a person actually listen? Is there a published disclosure? Does payment buy placement?

Then he turns those three questions on his own submission service, the Jukebox.

Disclosure: Josh still curates a few playlists on SubmitHub and runs the Jukebox.

  • Is It Still Your Song?
    Sep 29 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

You wrote the words and the melody. You sang a rough demo into your phone, uploaded it to Suno, and it came back with a full band behind you. So is it still your song?

Josh answers the question by taking the song apart. A song is a stack: composition at the bottom, then arrangement, performance, and finish. The layers tell you what you own. The decisions you make along the way tell you what you authored. Every rejected take, corrected lyric, and arrangement sent back for another pass is you writing.

He walks through what Suno's terms, effective September 3, 2026, say about uploads and generated output. Then he covers the full demo-upload workflow step by step, naming what you keep and what you hand over at each stage:

    • The demo goes in.
    • Suno builds the arrangement.
    • You pull stems.
    • You replace the AI vocal with your own.
    • You mix and master.

He closes on the one habit that turns the question from a feeling into a record: a provenance folder for every song.
