From the two-time Edgar Award–nominated author of ON A QUIET STREET and THE VACANCY IN ROOM 10...

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES meets FINLAY DONOVAN in this darkly humorous thriller about three women's lives colliding around an explosive murder, a bizarre cover-up, and a riveting search for the truth in a multi-cast audiobook narrated by Brittany Pressley, Rebecca Lowman, and Karissa Vacker!

"Explosive, addictive, and impossible to put down."
—Noelle Ihli, bestselling author of Such Quiet Girls

Those lucky enough to live in the elite lakefront community of Cloverhill Lakes are drawn to it for its safety and top-notch school district. The moms meet for coffee at the park while their kids play, they’re heavily involved in the PTA, and the summers are filled with chardonnay, brunch, sundresses, and backyard bonfires.

But everything changes when Regan Hoffman’s car explodes at the annual Labor Day party. The wrong person is killed, but it was meant for her. As the carefully crafted walls of her community begin to crumble, Regan tries to keep it together—something made infinitely harder when she sees her dead husband…alive.

When a Cloverhill Lakes resident suddenly goes missing, dark secrets begin to surface from underneath the idyllic veneer of their beautiful community—and the truth threatens to destroy them all as Regan finds herself in a fight for her life.

This book is a masterclass in why I’ll stick to my quiet corner of the world and leave the "elite lakefront living" to the professionals.
The Plot (or: Why I have trust issues now)
Cloverhill Lakes has it all: chardonnay, sundresses, and a PTA that probably runs on more caffeine than a level-one trauma center. But the "perfect" facade literally goes up in smoke when Regan Hoffman’s car explodes at a Labor Day party. Here’s the kicker: someone else is in the car, but the hit was meant for her.
As if a botched assassination attempt isn’t enough for one Monday, Regan then sees her "dead" husband walking around very much alive. Throw in a missing neighbor and enough secrets to bury the entire community, and you have a recipe for a total psychological meltdown.
Why it earned 4 stars:
The "WTF" Factor: I lost count of how many times I actually said "WTF" out loud. The revelations are mind-blowing and hit you right when you think you’ve finally gained a foothold on the truth.
Narrative Acrobatics: Seraphina Nova Glass weaves a severely convoluted world using multiple POVs and some of the most unreliable narrators I’ve read in a long time. It’s messy, it’s dark, and it’s brilliantly executed.
Atmosphere: The contrast between the idyllic backyard bonfires and the absolute chaos unfolding underneath the surface is sharp enough to cut.
Final Verdict: It’s a twisty, high-stakes ride that proves the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the lake—it’s usually just hiding more bodies. If you love a domestic thriller that keeps you guessing until the very last page, grab this one. Just maybe don't start it if you have things to do, because you won't be putting it down.

If you think your neighborhood group chat is dramatic, wait until you step into Cloverhill Lakes.

Another fabulous book. Didn’t see any of this coming. Couldn’t turn it off. I hope she had more in the works; huge fan

Let me start by saying narration and performance were 5 stars. The story…uh, not so many…
The writing, itself, was fine, however the plot was just so over the top. Author used Every cliche in the thriller playbook.
It wasn’t horrible to listen to, just totally unbelievable.
I cannot recommend wasting a credit on this, which is too bad, as I like the author’s previous works.
