Six-shooters blazing. Bad guys closing in. When the dust settles, will he be the last man standing?
Jack Sage can't let injustice pass. So as the Civil War veteran rides north toward the Rocky Mountains, he doesn't hesitate to help an ambushed newspaperman. But just as they reach the tiny Texas town they're headed for, the loner's inner rage ignites when a homesteader is gunned down in cold blood in front of his wife and kids.
Reluctantly taking the job of marshal due to the tears of the innocents, Jack throws the guilty man in jail and starts cleaning up the lawless settlement. But between corrupt saloon owners and rough swindlers, the principled gunfighter may have bitten off more than he can chew.
Can he bring order to people in need, or will he end up in an early grave?
Stranger with a Star is the exciting first book in the Jack Sage Western series. If you like honest heroes, character-driven drama, and thrilling shootouts, then you'll love Donald L. Robertson's wild ride into the sunset.

The writer does a bit of .detailing about how hard life can be in the old west, and he doesn’t glamorize much…so the reader isn’t fraught with lots of emotion while reading.
I might have enjoyed feeling a little bit more, but the narrator is so good, and the writer occasionally goes into detail tangents that kept me engaged. Like one time, when Jack rolls a cigarette, every little detail is described, there are several more instances of detailed old wet descriptions, and I love that.
Jack is the tallest man in the West, he’s amazingly good looking but somewhat asexual. Every woman is gorgeous. Yada yada yada.
This is a great book for any age. You can definitely feel comfortable if your 14 year-old were to start listening. You could enjoy it yourself as a light read.
I gave it five stars because I am a sucker for the tallest man in the West, who’s a hero and who does kind things for widows. Who’s the best fighter and the fastest shot. I/ live for this stuff.
Is this really a five star novel? Only to people who like wild West stories. In the great scheme of literature, it’s not a five.
But a book like this, reminds me of the old West movies I used to watch with my dad. And somehow, when I’m reading cowboy yarns or listening, it feels like I’m with him. I think that’s where I get the biggest emotional charge. It’s the writer taking me to a different time and place, not just to the old west, but to my childhood living room, me, my brothers and my dad piled up like puppies on our living room floor watching the black-and-white, loving our cowboy stories. That’s why I press the five star button.
Good Traditional Western
