This week on the show, we continue our time with Stephen King's Carrie as we read the 2nd third of the novel, ending on the following quote: "They stared at each other in the dark, frozen by the actual act as thought never could have done. Her very breath turned to glass in her throat. Then, inside, the laughter began."

This week on the show, we begin our series covering Mike Flanagan's Carrie by first taking a look at Stephen King's original novel. We've divided the novel into roughly 3 equal parts, and today we're covering the first third. Carrie doesn't have chapters, so we'll be reading through the following paragraph:

"She closed her eyes, slept, and dreamed of huge, living stones crashing through the night, seeking out Momma, seeking out Them. They were trying to run, trying to hide. But the rock would not hide them; the dead tree gave no shelter."

I know you're all very excited to hear two middle-aged men discuss menstruation!

Please note that we're a bit more free with spoilers on this one. We've both read the book before, but also the ending of Carrie is so widely known in the cultural consciousness

Discussion Question: What is your favorite Stephen King "Ka-llage?"

Next week, Carrie continues as we cover the middle third of the novel. We will end on the following paragraph:
"They stared at each other in the dark, frozen by the actual act as thought never could have done. Her very breath turned to glass in her throat. Then, inside, the laughter began" (It's right after Chris yanks on the rope.)

While looking for a new podcast I came across Kingslingers and I was pleasantly surprised how insightful and positive Scott and Matt were. I rapidly listened to their backlog of Stephen King discussions. Then being a huge Hill House fan, moved on to Flanagan’s Wake and have been loving it just as much. They are smart, funny and relatable and you can tell they have a passion for what they talk about. I’m looking forward to catching up to the present and possibly getting in on the conversation with other fans of the show. I also have to mention that when I learned it’s wake, as in funeral I was surprised. When I first saw the name of the show my brain saw it as wake, as in path left behind lol! So come, behold the genius that’s been left in Flanagan’s Wake!

Came for Kingslingers, stayed for Flanagan’s Wake

These gentlemen are killing it with the wake.
I have been a long time listener who found them at episode one of their Kingslingers podcast and they are now a giant part of my weekly podcast diet.
If you are looking for bright and funny hosts who give a really fresh take on media that you might have been too timid to approch, check out Matt and Scott.
Long days and pleasant nights.

These two are not slowing down. Matt & Scott have a rapport grown from years of friendship. I could listen to them all day long. Their analysis is consistently insightful.

I discovered them during the pandemic when they were recording the first season of their Kingslingers podcast, now I follow all of their content.

Scott and Matt are back with this outstanding follow up to Kingslingers. Their thoughtful analysis and years of chemistry are the perfect combination for this deep dive into the career and works of Mike Flanagan. Looking forward to the OG Kingslingers throwback as we read through Gerald's Game together over the next several weeks!
