Astronauts fight for the survival of humanity against an alien species seeking to control their future among the stars in this science-fiction thriller.
They were humanity's last hope. As the majority of Earth's population uploaded their consciousnesses to embrace digital immortality—free from illness and death in the simulated Metaverse—the Beta Explorers were tasked with expanding their presence throughout the galaxy. They terraformed worlds and created colonies so that humans could live and thrive in physical environments.
But the influence of the Metaverse reached the colonial planets, infecting people with the desire to embrace a carefree artificial existence—a desire implanted as a virus by the Atua, an alien species convinced they are gods, destined to rule over every other race and keep them grounded from space exploration. Symbiotic in nature, the Atua have already bonded themselves with other alien life, controlling their very evolution. They view humanity as a threat to their order and are willing to wage an intergalactic war to destroy every colony and even Earth itself.
The Beta Explorers—Icarus Kishida, Angelique Komene, Atlas Tupu, and Trillion von Neumann—are not about to surrender to the demands of tyrants. However, the Atua are far from the only danger they face. Civil war has disrupted one of the colony worlds, giving rise to an authoritarian government. Now, the Betas must come up with a peaceful solution to one conflict even as they consider developing a planet-killing weapon to protect their race from another . . .
The third volume of the hit science-fiction adventure series—originally released on Royal Road and perfect for fans of Bobiverse and Children of Time—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Some very minor spoilers. The first two have a compelling concept and I had high hopes on the third book as it included a warlike species that seemed like a slam dunk. It was not. The author took what seemed like a sure thing and made it a weird juvenile series of knee jerk reactions and paper thin political diatribes. The story line was a giant run-on sentence in a narrow channel of information. There was also a crazy fever dream with some "southern political" who took control of a planet - engaged in global sabotage - wholesale slaughter in a civil war, but then the entire ordeal was settled via golf and a last minute political campaign from a total stranger at the very last minute, It's hard to even write here. I endured it and I feel like I should get a challenge patch or something.
The concept of high technology and 90s technology is totally irritating. The constant stream of name drops, naming a character "little Luke Daniels" for example was cringe, and tropes completely removes the ability to descend into the book and enjoy it.
If you could imagine a teenage high school drama filtered through a kid on adderall you'd be close to the line of thought, If you then took that dialog and had a talented voice actor animate the roles you'd be even closer to understanding the rushed mess of this project. "a direct quote from a super intelligent main character who is compared to Einstein on several occasions "you can't hurt us. you need to chill." The exchange is similar to when a child smashes toy cars together and comes up with dialog on why "they're mad".
And a final thing - we have hundreds of colonized plants that were infected with a virus that caused degradation of technology forcing people into simulated reality, The team deleted the virus across all of these worlds across the entire human diaspora - except Earth! What? To hard somehow? I dunno. They eventually had to have some flimsy standoff with the main antagonists and appease them into removing a virus. Most of this was retconned into reality.
