From the first to the last, I was kept in suspense! Agatha Christie still has the goods!

I enjoyed this long play for many crochet projects and naps. It is entertaining and enjoyable.

So fun to read Christie’s stories.

I’ve seen many movies based on Agatha Christie’s books but I had never actually read her work. Loved this collection!

The first thing that struck me is the full-bodied, rich vocabulary. We certainly have pared down our vocabulary in the last century and it’s a shame. Christie’s language is vibrant and exact. Each word means something specific.

I will say that these stories are dated. That’d be fine but the racism is shocking and back then, they thought nothing of it. It really did bother me but that was then and this is now.

The mysteries vary in quality. Some seem like outlines of better, more complete stories. Others are remarkably vivid and detailed and those are the ones I most enjoyed. But her methods of theft, murder and other misdeeds are always interesting and creative.

I never knew Poirot had a kind of assistant. I was reminded of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Watson documented Holmes adventures just as Hastings does for Poirot. I wonder how much Christie was influenced by Doyle.

The collection’s included pieces vary from very short to full novel or at least novelette. It’s fun to discover the range of her early work. These are iconic pieces. Christie all the way back to the Lusitania. Amazing history, wonderful stories. A joy to read.
