Really enjoyed all aspects of this one.

Historical fiction which takes place in a time and location I don’t know much about, characters you’ll root for, and some spookiness in time for Halloween!

Sooo good! My fave current author!

Isabel Cañas is currently my fave author. I loved La Hacienda and waited patiently for her next book. It was worth the wait. Her stories are so good and she knows how to add in the romance. Some authors make it weird, cringy, or just annoying. Not Isabel. The characters develop naturally and the romance does to. I also like how she does historical gothic. It’s so good just read. I’m waiting her her next book. These should be made into movies.

Her descriptions were so vivid!

I loved the story, the vivid descriptions and details. I enjoyed the ending. This is such a great book.

Vampires & Romance!!!

As someone who grew up in Texas, and around Mexican Americans, I appreciated this novel. The back-and-forth between English and Spanish was nostalgic. This was some damn good gothic horror that kept me wanting more of the monster to be revealed! I wish that there was more backstory on the vampires and how they came to this land, but Cañas kept me guessing at every turn. I appreciate stories that don’t give you all the answers, yet make the reader do some mental gymnastics and make inferences about the characters based on the text.

Definitely going to read more from Isabel Cañas and I think everyone should as well.

Beautiful Horror Story

This is the most beautiful Horror Story I've ever listened to. LOL It made me remember the old stories my mother told of my grandparents. It made me remember phrases and words I haven't said in years. I have to admit that Nena frustrated the heck out of me at first. I won't go into detail right now but once you listen to the book you'll understand. This is a book I want to keep forever. I'm buying a hard copy and listening to it many times!
