Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849) was an American writer, poet, editor and literary critic known for his dark, atmospheric tales and haunting poetry. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in American literature, Poe helped shape the horror and science-fiction genres and is widely credited with inventing detective fiction in his 1841 short story, Murders in the Rue Morgue. Despite a life marked by personal tragedy and financial hardship, Poe produced a number of enduring classics such as The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, and The Fall of the House of Usher, and since his somewhat mysterious death, he and his writings have had a wide-ranging influence in popular culture. In 1946, the Mystery Writers of America established the annual Edgar award, which honour the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction and film.

Mostly good. Exactly what you expect.

Chapters are well defined. The order isn’t what I’d choose, but it’s ok. One of the performers is difficult to like. I don’t need to hear Poe read by a 1950s cabbie.

Right now, I’m listening to The Sphinx. Earlier, he said, “calmly” pronounced kahmlee. Too many words with an aggressive accent. General reading style feels like an assault. I tend to skip his work.

For all I know, it is one performer doing voices. That’s possible. I didn’t look. If it is, I don’t care for this one.

Forevermore…

…will I remember the writing and intellectual contributions of Poe to the world. Prior to hearing about his fascinating involvement in early American metaphysical circles, I’d only known his more popular horror stories and poems. He is so much deeper and I will never forget several of the longer works, like the epic adventure of Arthur Gordan Pym of Nantucket. Narration is beautiful. I’m not a big fan of poetry, even from a great mind like EEP, so can’t say much about that.;

the preformence is gread over the whole collection, but specificly, it just SO good at the raven, that i cant help myself but hold my breath.
