Earth is long since dead. On a colony planet, a band of men has gained control of technology, made themselves immortal, and now rule their world as the gods of the Hindu pantheon. Only one dares oppose them: he who was once Siddhartha and is now Mahasamatman. Binder of Demons, Lord of Light.

The story is so good that I will give it five stars in spite of the poor choice of narrator. This is one of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors, it would have been better served by a narrator with an English accent… or no accent at all. Southern drawl just doesn’t suit a story based on Indian mythology.

The story is so good…

Read this many years ago, nice to see my memories of the book remained strong. An excellent twist on how populating new worlds can result unusual forms of governance…

A good story!

Very good story, narrated by a great voice. It is fun to catch glimpses of the sci-fi and futuristic elements hidden within the fantasy setting. Wish it had a sequel!

A Uniquely Veiled Sci-Fi Story

There’s a good tale here, if you’re patient enough to sift through the metaphysics and theobabble.

The worst part is the slow, saccharine American southern drawl they somehow some way decided this tale needed to be told with. Like, what…..??
