When celebrated writer Joan Didion’s life was altered forever, she wrote a new chapter. In this adaptation of her iconic memoir, Didion transforms the story of the shattering loss of her husband and their daughter into a one-woman play performed by Tony Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, who originated the role on Broadway in 2007. Written with Didion’s trademark style of cool observation, The Year of Magical Thinking weaves back and forth in time, taking listeners on a poignant journey through heartbreak, grief, and resilience. It’s an unforgettable theatrical experience that resonates with anyone who has ever loved.

Loved it. Heartwrenching and true. The longer we live, the more harrowing the journey may prove to become. Courage of one woman. Masterfully played by the incomparable Ms. Redgrave.

Life and life endings.

I had read The Year of Magical Thinking a few years ago. Although her book was great as a read ~ as a listen it was transcendent .Ms Redgrave’s performance was spectacular, and rendered me into trance as I fell helplessly into Ms Gidions work of literary art. Very courageously executed by both artists

Sublime

So much to cope with in such a short amount of time. First the husband and the ongoing illness of her daughter. What fortitude we are able to muster when we must. Her ability to cope in her own way is, I'm sure not unique, but having lost a husband I can say you do cope in many ways and it takes varing periods of time to come to terms with it.
This was a very compelling story that, if you take out the fact that she could fly everywhere and transfer hospitals at a moments notice, is relatable to most everyone on an emotional and phycological level.
It is her love of her husband and daughter that is important to this story not her wealth or where she lives.
Kudos on a wonderful book!!!

A year of sadness
