Publisher's summary

Everyone at Jim Irving’s garage is gung ho about Wrench Wars, a new reality show featuring mechanics. Everyone, that is, except talented mechanic Chandler Scott, the sole employee who has refused to sign the contract. The rest of the mechanics are pressuring him, too, because, without Chandler - and his volatile interactions with his boss - no one’s getting on the show.

His one ally is Jim’s son, Mark, who’s stuck working for his dad until he pays down his student loans or finds better work elsewhere and who's been Chandler's secret lover for a while.

Then, a playful tryst in the garage blows up in their faces, giving the network ammo to blackmail Chandler by threatening to out Mark to his father. Now, Chandler is backed into a corner, and Mark needs to decide how far he’s willing to go to protect the man who's been sharing his bed...and may have stolen his heart.

way better than expected

Normally you get what you pay for and I knew this was going to be a short story so I wasn't excusing much. what I got was an awesome love story, surprisingly hot sex, an actual plot that made me frustrated and emotional and glad. Honestly I'm surprised so much managed to fit in here without seeming forced or rushed. It was fantastic writing. I'm not familiar with this narrator but they managed to fit the story extremely well. And despite the scenes sounding very casual, he managed to make the intimate scenes sound very passionate . Everything about this was a pleasant surprise.

as great as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. Nick J Russo is one of the top 5 narrators for me, I can listen without break and have no problems to follow.
I'm just not yet finish with the book, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Last Mechanic Standing

This was an enjoyable read the first time around (in 2016) and a good listen in audio the second time (Dec 2019)... Nick J. Russo did a great job with this book and what the Author L.A. Witt gave him to work with. I was actually excited when I saw this book listed on audible. It was a memorable book and stuck out to me, even after reading it 3 years ago. I hope the rest of this series comes to audio soon too.

I do think that the audio gave the story a little bit more depth though. It's one of those books that when you listen to the narration you just get more depth into the emotions of the book and characters lives. You can feel the animosity, and the frustration & despair for the situation that Chandler and Mark are stuck in. It's horrible that the producers back them into such a crappy spot, and even worse that the other guys in the shop enabled everything to make the situation even worse for the two main characters. I was really glad when they finally stood up for themselves and let it all out..

Reall!!

what a waste of a story and a great narrator. how outrageous!! I really expect more from L A Witt, wish it would have been a little more realistic and not so kid like. not at all worth wasting your credit on...
