When a killer comet hurtles toward Earth, 18-year-old Joanna Murphy is selected to wait out the apocalypse in an underground bunker. She enters cryosleep with her close-knit team, preparing to resettle the planet after the atmosphere clears in 200 years.

Joanna is the only one who wakes up.

Faced with a bunker full of bones and a blocked exit, Joanna must claw her way to the surface, figure out what happened to her team, and try not to panic - or die. That’s going to be tricky if she’s the only person left in the world.

From the author of The Seabound Chronicles, Steel and Fire, and Empire of Talents comes a story of resilience and optimism at the end of the world.

Average storyline and plot. I will not be looking for the rest of this series.

Meh

I enjoyed listening to the book, but the story seems more like a young adult read.

Interesting Concept

I forced myself through 10 chapters and gave up. The idea is good, the writing is fine, if a little bland. But the teenage angsty drama is just too much for me. Had I seen the preview or excerpt mentioning that the MC is 18, I'd have saved a credit for something else. So far, it's been an introduction to the premise and a whole lot of "oh he's so cute! Does he even notice me?" and "geez, I wish he'd kiss me already". I really feel like this is a straight forward YA genre and should be classified as such.

Not my thing.

Enjoyed the story and the narration.
I would have enjoyed a bit more details on how the team prepared, but that did not detract from the story. The lack of swearing and violence was a nice change from the majority of apocalypse stories and I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest it to my preteen son.

I read a review before that said that this book should have been classified as a YA novel. I do understand that assertion, because it has a lot of YA elements- hard not to when a while part of the book is all about people age shaming or being agist towards the MC. A less YA version of this book would perhaps focus less on romance and agism, and more on the existential aspects of the novel. It did delve into that, but it was more of an action novel IMO. However, I was definitely throughly entertained and definitely stayed up past my bed time devouring the book. A hallmark of good writing, YA or not.

Entertaining!
