The much-anticipated third installment in Card's New York Times best-selling Mithermages series

Danny North is the first Gate Mage to be born on Earth in nearly 2,000 years, or at least the first to survive and claim his power, for families of Westil in exile on Earth have a treaty that requires the death of any suspected Gate Mage. The wars between the families had been terrible until at last they realized it was their own survival in question. But a Gate Mage, one who could build a Great Gate back to Westil, would give his own family a terrible advantage over all the others and reignite the wars. So it was decided that they all had to die. And if the families didn't kill them, the Gate Thief would—that mysterious mage who destroyed every Great Gate, along with the Gate Mage who created it, before it could be opened between Earth and Westil.

But Danny survived. And Danny battled the Gate Thief—and won.

What he didn't know at the time was that the Gate Thief had a very good reason for closing the Great Gates—and Danny has now fallen into the power of that great enemy of both Earth and Westil.

After reading the first two installments of the series, I was really looking forward to the Gatefather. Unfortunately, the story was very dry in comparison with the first two.

A bit of a let down.

Orson builds such a rich world in the first two books that you are ready for this biblical in scope climax that never comes.

Shame runs out of gas at the finish line

this story had great potential, but he got lost on his way and telling it. there was no climax there was no conflict there was just a constant discourse on theoretical knowledge the first book in the series was amazing the second book was a little stifling this book felt like I was trying to read a textbook instead of a story. he should have made it a six book series so that he could have explained his world over six books instead of 3 because it's such an amazing world to set the stories in but you can explain it all in three books.

Losr

Any additional comments?

This series had a great premise and promise, and got off to a good start, but tailed off in book two, and in this book, the direction is lost and the story just wanders off into the sunset. Maybe next time. I like Card, though, and will try again.

A story looking for a good ending- fail.

The story couldive been condensed into less then 3 hours total but it was dragged out through the side characters who gave nothing to the plot the first two books were masterpieces and I was so excited for this last one but it just felt hollow like a rough draft. Also there were so many loose ends that were never tied up what happened to see and the others the narration was amazing as awlays but it is a far cry from the previous entries.

None of the characters are relatable
