Atmospheric Gothic romance

Happy to have come across this lesser known tale by Wilkie Collins. It does ask you to suspend your disbelief, and just enjoy the storytelling. Wilkie Collins is so entertaining!

Wilkie Never Disappoints

I just love Wilkie Collins’ writing! He has such a way with words - very entertaining.

He lost me…

Ok I get it. it was published in 1876 as a serial in a magazine so I imagine women back then anticipating each installment and hanging on every suspenseful, far-fetched word. I’m sure it was par for the course in magazine fluff-read. I read it in that vein but c’mon. After characters make numerous stupid choices and the story is completely unbelievable I mentally check out. I finished it though. It was like witnessing a train wreck. I couldn’t look away.
