This audiobook was like holding up a mirror—and for the first time, actually understanding the reflection. The way A.J. Brooks explains deactivation triggers and avoidant behaviors helped me finally connect the dots on patterns I’ve repeated in relationships without even realizing it. The daily exercises are simple but surprisingly powerful, especially the ones focused on slowing down and staying present during emotional discomfort. I liked that the tone wasn’t pushy or clinical—it felt like a calm conversation guiding me toward healthier connection. If you’ve struggled with emotional distance or fear of intimacy, this is a compassionate and practical roadmap to start healing.

This audiobook offers a deep and thoughtful look into avoidant attachment. What stood out to me was how much it covers, from the psychological roots to the real relationship patterns and emotional habits that show up day to day. I recognized myself in so many of the chapters, especially the parts on emotional numbing and retreating from connection. After a recent breakup, I realized how often I shut down or pulled away without understanding why. The sections on shadow work and vulnerability gave me a lot to think about, and the practical strategies helped me feel like change is actually possible. This isn't just information, it's guidance. Anyone who wants to understand themselves better or show up more fully in relationships will find value here.

What I liked most is that it didn’t pressure to change overnight. It felt gentle and real. So, if you’re tired of feeling distant but scared to open up, this is a good place to start.

This book felt like a mirror I didn’t know I needed. AVD ( Avoidant Attachment Detox ) isn’t just about psychology; it’s about patterns we carry silently and how they quietly shape our relationships. It does a great job of explaining avoidant behaviors without shaming you for them. What helped me most was the section on “deactivation triggers,” those moments when I emotionally shut down without realizing it. Naming those triggers gave me a sense of control I hadn’t had before.
A standout phrase was: “Intimacy isn't a threat it's a skill we can learn.” That line stayed with me.
The daily exercises are practical and not too overwhelming, which makes it easier to build a habit. If you're someone who pulls away when things get close, or you’ve been told you're "too distant" in relationships, this book might gently guide you toward understanding and change. It’s not an instant fix, but it’s a solid first step toward a secure connection.

This audiobook really helped me see how my avoidant habits were affecting my relationships. I always thought I just liked being independent, but this showed me what was really going on underneath. The short exercises were easy to try, and the narrator made it feel like a real conversation. It’s already helped me open up more with my partner, and I feel less stuck. If you’ve ever felt distant or confused about closeness, this is worth a listen.

Prior to listening to this audiobook I did not know that topic of anxious attachment was so complex. The author does a great job in explaining the main areas in which avoidant attachment plays a role and to the extent that is does. Attachment in the areas of work, family, relationships and friendships are discuss in detail. Suggestions such as journaling, practicing CBT or Schema Therapy and setting boundaries are some of the ideas shared. Looking into shadow work was an valid point made in the audio.

I didn’t think I had avoidant tendencies—just thought I’d finally embraced my introverted side. Turns out, some of that “me time” was more like “don’t get too close” time. This book helped me name the difference, and that awareness? Game-changer. I’ve already started leaning in instead of pulling back when things feel vulnerable. It’s not about being more social—it’s about being more open, even with myself.

Sometimes the non-fiction audiobooks I choose speak to be in ways I didn't expect. For anyone who might be looking to break the cycle of short-term relationships, or who has trouble building any sort of meaningful relationship, this book could really help. I thought the author did a great job of laying out the definitions and issues for those who have either been diagnosed or become self-aware of avoidant attachment detox.

In time, I hope the included daily exercises will me and others in their search for improvement.
