Critic Reviews

"This memoir is a real page-turner. What happens when you start dating after 22 years of marriage? Unexpected, original, funny and sometimes deeply infuriating, Laura Friedman Williams has so much to say about what we expect of women’s sexuality. Confronting without being sleazy and intelligent without being preachy. I loved it." (Viv Groskop, author of How to Own the Room)

"Available offers far more than just a wild romp through the Wild West of the post-marital dating world - though a wild romp it certainly is. Curling up with this memoir is like settling in for a night with a hilarious girlfriend, listening to her best sexual anecdotes. Available is also a serious exploration of womanhood. Laura reminds us of the importance of regaining all the parts of who we are as women, despite how easy it is to become consumed by the mammoth roles of Mother and Wife. We aren't here solely to serve our families as domestic martyrs. We deserve to reawaken the parts of ourselves that often become dormant once we enter maternal roles. We deserve to live life to the fullest, embracing each facet of our identities, even (especially!) the parts society teaches us to shove aside when we become mothers." (Caroline Mackenzie, author of One Year of Ugly)

"Eye-popping." (Daily Mail

Perfect

That is exactly what I needed. Her story is very much like mine. It feels good to know that there are others out in the world who walk a very similar path as I do. It’s all about the journey. Be true to yourself.

Wow!

An amazingly intimate memoir of an oversexed divorced mother of three who decides to pursue casual sex with as many men as she can. Her accounts of her various encounters are surprisingly detailed, and she seems to end up in bed with most men on their first encounters, including a quickie on a resort beach with a young stud while on a family vacation with her kids and her ex. Beautifully narrated by the author.

Shameless & Hilarious

a great listen for anyone middle aged navigating the on & offline dating world that seems so utterly bizarre! I learned things about myself, at this similar point in my life, thru her experiences!

Funny, Bold and Empowering

As someone in her early 40s in the middle of a divorce, this book made me realize that the strong feelings of desire I have, and wanting to be desired in return, aren’t so taboo afterall. The entire book was fantastic, and the epilogue may have been my favorite part! Talk about a happy ending - a woman knowing her worth and the terms on which she is going to live the rest of her life!!

Cheerleading for mid life women!

Friedman Williams openly writes about sexuality and she does so with candour and enthusiasm. She cheerleads for all mid life women who decide they are not ready to say goodbye to this part of their lives. Hooray for this!
But the book is more than her forays into hook ups and dating. She writes poignantly and honestly about the end of a marriage and tue work that it requires to re-frame oneself and to create a new narrative about what happens next in one’s life and what it is to come out the other end whole and happy.
I enjoyed the audio b

Remembering I am a woman

I’m going through a separation after 20 years.
Thank you so much Laura for reminding me that I am a sexual being and can be more than a wife and mother.

Bare honesty

I enjoyed Laura’s refreshing honesty. It was enjoyable listening to her narrate and tell her story. While I enjoyed the dating and sex stories and they often made me laugh out loud while out on walks - my favourite part of this book is her fresh take on relationships and what makes them work (and fall apart), how to be true to ourselves and how life always goes on.

Inspiring story

I loved the overall story of a woman reclaiming her life post divorce, but sometimes the author across a little....unlikeable? Still, I found it really inspiring and her adventures interesting, but if I had a dollar for every time she mentions how quickly she reaches orgasm the book would have paid for itself!
