We are taught to trust doctors, the CDC, and pharmaceuticals. And we are taught to believe autism - a condition affecting 1 in 54 children - is an unexplainable, irreversible mystery. What if we haven’t been told the whole story? What if autism isn’t the life sentence we thought? Autism Reimagined flips the narrative from hopeless to hopeful as Jodie shares strategies that led to her son’s autism reversal and gets brutally honest about how a mother bucked the system and beat the odds.

A great approach.
As a health care provider and mother to a young son recently diagnosed with ASD, I enjoyed learning more about the son-rise principles and techniques. I found it to be very beneficial, not only in conveying important messages to parents regarding attitude and optimism, but a lot of the core principles and strategies make a lot of sense. In my realm of healthcare, ABA is the primary therapy recommendation. I had some colleagues of mine urge me to NOT look into this treatment modality. I felt it was in my family's best interests to explore all of the available information to better my understanding of what was out there. I was so glad that I did! I have already had good success implementing some strategies (excitement, energy, and enthusiasm) with some positive results.

A Different Approach to Autism!!! There is HOPE!
What did you love best about Autism Breakthrough?
It was very easy to understand. I found the suggested techniques refreshing as opposed to requiring a college education for implementation.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Raun. He was very animated while reading the book and telling about his personal experiences. It kept me excited to read more.
What about Raun K. Kaufman’s performance did you like?
I liked that Raun came off as being very personable, understanding, and non-judge mental of child's situation in the cases he discussed.
What did you learn from Autism Breakthrough that you would use in your daily life?
The biggest thing that I learned was that I need to remain calm even when my child is performing behaviors that stress me out such as hitting and biting. I also learned to greatly decrease the control battles that I have with my son.
Any additional comments?
One issue that I had with my 3 year old son was getting him to put his bed clothes on when he gets out of the tub at night. It recently became his routine to jump out of the tub and run around naked for at least 15 - 20 minutes before agreeing to put on his bed clothes. One night I decided to get very animated about how fun it is to get dressed for bed. I even pretended to put his bed clothes on his sister (she is 18 months). He initially came over and put his bed clothes on because he wanted to be a part of the fun. But then he took them off about 3 minutes later while laughing out loud. I simply laughed with him and said, "Wow you are gonna get really cold running around naked. But it's ok. Let me know when you are ready to put your clothes on silly boy." He ran around for about 5 more minutes naked. Then the grabbed his clothes and rand to me and said, "I wann put my pajamas on." I was just as excited and said, "Sure thing! It's pajama time!!" He put on his clothes and happily got ready for bed. I recognized after this incident that I was making too big of a deal abou controlling exactly when he put his pajamas on. When I relinquished some of the control he almost immediately replied. I am very hopeful and excited about what is yet to come. I know my son has a bright future ahead and I'm thrilled to be a part of it!

Powerfully Positive --
I feel energized and excited to have access to the Sonrise Program. This book is all about shifting your mindset to joining your child's world and loving them totally and completely ...as they are...and then lays out specific methods to help your child join in our world. I was captivated from the time I pushed "play". The author (autistic as a child) exudes the qualities Energy Excitement and Enthusiasm...which are the three keys to bringing your child closer. His joyous positive narration is infectious., As a grandmother to a precious 4 year old with autism....I feel my mind has been opened ...that I've found a key to unlock the mystery of how to interact in a way that provides opportunities to assist. I want to be a support to my darling daughter in law and son, and this book was exactly what I needed. I can see that they are already implementing many of the ideas. Autism is a social relational disorder..,..not behavioral. This book inspires HOPE ...and gives clear guidance on how and why this program can impact the life of a child with autism....no matter what the level of their autism. This book is s blessing! I would highly recommend LISTENING to the audio book first! I bought the hard copy yesterday ..and plan to use it as a reference. The audio is powerful beyond words. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with all!

Lesson in Love
Like many of us I'm still working to figure out how to best care for my child and equip him to live his best life so I won't offer any assessments of the relative effectiveness of the methods described in this book. What I will say is that I've been touched, encouraged & inspired by the deep demonstrations of love detailed in this book. I am applying some of the lessons from this book with my son who is on the spectrum but I will also be taking some of the lessons from this book and applying them with all of my children. The deliberate and purposeful methods for connecting with children outlined in this book have inspired and given me practical advice on being a better father to my children both on and off the spectrum.
