When Austrian President Franz Jonas visited the Vatican in 1971, Pope Paul VI named Austria “The Island of the Blessed". He did so to emphasize Austria’s steep recovery. love this book

I have always been fascinated by the Habsburg dynasty. This book furthers my interest, from the beginning to the end.

Austrian history

this book was fascinating I thoroughly enjoy learning about the habsburgs. the chapter on the Reformation was excellent.

mostly for the Habsburg portion

as I had already enjoyed the 1st half, I skipped ahead. learning more about the Habsburgs helped to enhance my knowledge n enjoyment in European history. it's amazing, the spider web that has been woven, throughout the centuries. more great narration by Jason Zenobia

Very comprehensive

In today's world of geopolitics, Austria often stands in the background behind Germany and other European countries, but the reality is that for many centuries, Austria was a powerhouse, giving rise to Holy Roman emperors, as well as kings and queens that ruled outside of the Austrian borders. So much of what Europe is today is a result of the Hapsburgs and other notable Austrian figures. This book is a very comprehensive summation of Austria's contributions to Western Europe and the world.
