Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Editorial Reviews
James Clear’s best seller Atomic Habits sets out to prove that improving your life doesn’t have to mean making enormous changes. You can make real, important changes with small alterations in your routine—waking up five minutes early, or doing two push-ups a day. In fact, Clear states that there are only 10 simple steps you need to take in order to create remarkable change in your life.
Clear himself narrates the book and as a frequent podcaster and a guest on countless talk shows, his compelling voice makes his life lessons easy to digest. The tips and methods you’ll hear are paired with real life stories of Olympic athletes, business bigwigs and leading scientists, demonstrating how Clear’s advice has been put into action by real people — and how you can apply these methods to improve your own day-to-day.
Publisher's summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The phenomenal international best seller. Listen to the book everyone is talking about.
Transform your life with tiny changes in behaviour, starting now.
There's never been a better time to make a few tiny changes that will revolutionise your life.
A revolutionary system to get one per cent better every day.
People think when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions – doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call.
He calls them atomic habits.
In this ground-breaking book, Clear reveals exactly how these minuscule changes can grow into such life-altering outcomes. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule, or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone) and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter. Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated, and happy.
These small changes will have a revolutionary effect on your career, your relationships, and your life.
Critic reviews
"A supremely practical and useful book. James Clear distils the most fundamental information about habit formation, so you can accomplish more by focusing on less." (Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck)
"James Clear has spent years honing the art and studying the science of habits. This engaging, hands-on book is the guide you need to break bad routines and make good ones.’ (Adam Grant, author of Originals)
"A special book that will change how you approach your day and live your life." (Ryan Holiday, author of The Obstacle Is the Way)

Probably one of the most useful books I have read
Well, listened to.
This book really resonated with me. Yes it’s about creating good habits but the author is specific about how to create habits, and also explains how we self sabotage and why. He talks about the Habit of Action, amongst others, which I suspect should apply to 90 percent of us.
The book is clear, practical and very interesting.
Thoroughly recommended.
P.S. I wrote this review as part of a new habit, because of this book.

Amazing book but...
Honestly, if you’re reading this review-buy the book! It’s excellent and I’m on my second listen to it and have taken much away from my first time.
Though I really, *really* wish it could be edited to take out the constant reading out of the full website address or even change it to “you’ll find it on the website”. I’m really surprised this wasn’t picked up before it made it to the final stages, it’s really annoying particularly in audio.
On my second listen it’s beginning to get insufferable and I can’t help eye rolling each time even though the actual content is wonderful.

Incredible take on habits
I’ve read many books on personal development and this is hands down the best of the lot. I’ve never read a book so clearly constructed in terms of the workings of human behaviour combined with genuinely actionable takeaways. This covers easily manageable steps to address habit formation in literally any aspect of your life. I happened to be in a personal funk at the time of reading this and going through the motion stage of addressing the things I was struggling with (ironically reading lots of books but not doing anything with the knowledge) This book has given me a plan of action, a framework to build out the habits and identity I aspire to.

I've followed James Clear's work for a long time and was reluctant to buy the audiobook thinking I already knew all of this. Whilst I did know most of what he was going to say he delivers the material beautifully, really bringing the topic to life and adding new context. Frankly I'm likely to grab the print version too.

Some nice ideas - but a bit shallow
A bit of a mishmash of neat ideas and stating the bleeding obvious. He has quite a narrow definition of ‘success’ that seems to revolve around going to the gym, making money etc... still, some of it was thought provoking and useful.

Not worth it
The work is obviously well researched, well written, and well read. HOWEVER - the content is mainly an amalgamation and simplification of the books, theories and research of others, leaving little new knowledge added to the topic. NOT TO MENTION THE NEVER ENDING WEBSITE REFERRALS! It lends the audiobook the vibe of a dodgy website with constant pop-up ads. If you do want to read this book, at least skip the audio and just get the physical copy.

The advice in this book is clear, concise and practical. Build the habits you've always wanted by following the advice herein, which is doled out in short bitesize chapters, each with its own summary. Clear reads his own book quite well so I can recommend the Audible version.

Good
Some good ideas within the book, the authors voice is irritating after a few chapters but stick with it

Simple and easy
I 1st read this on my kindle and have utilised some of the ideas. After a period of time I felt the need to go through this again so opted for the audiobook.
Easy concepts to follow with some quite obvious once read/heard.
Decent narration.

physical copy would be more helpful with this one
i listened to this audiobook while otherwise engaged in manual work tasks. i would have liked to take physical notes or look at the presented methods and checklists so i could get them straight in my head to make best use of them.
to that end, i do not think an audiobook is the best format for this book. The audiobook is good to run you through the simple ideas that hopefully make a great difference to your life if you create new habits to achieve your desired identity (as per book), but the physical book is better going to help you make sense of this and be easily able to refer back to.
Having listened to the audio, i'm thinking i need to see a hard copy.

Basic & common sensical
While there were some interesting methods to keep yourself accountable to changes, I was surprised to find that the majority of the advice is what I'd consider common knowledge. I suppose I may have done a lot of the work already in my life. There was not much in terms of a nuanced approach. To summarise this book in a sentence, 'start small, write down your progress, keep yourself accountable by telling others of your endevours' - there just isn't much more to it if you already know the basics.

Downloads available too - great book.
I read a review here saying that a physical copy would be better and almost didn’t buy it.
There is no need for a physical copy - when you purchase, James gives a website whilst you are listening to a site where you can download all the images/cheat-sheets etc
Great book!

The author annoyed me a lot, but actually OK
The author's constant self-promotion and look-at-me-I'm-so-awesome that is interspersed throughout this book actually made me angry.
Around that though, I actually liked the material. The way he breaks things down is good and helpful and I'd actually recommend it with the above disclaimer.
Like so many books in the genre: I wish the author would resist the temptation to go on about themselves. Sure, you can write it to make yourself feel good, but then *edit it out* before print. I'm going to keep giving books that fall in to this trap bad reviews.

You need this book. Yes, you! You need it.
I'm new to audible, and I came here because I heard James speak on a podcast with Louis Howes and I really liked what he had to say. The way James presents examples of different "bad" habits from an array of different people and how making a 1% change to your system today, tomorrow etc can alter your life within a week, a month, a year - is super powerful. I'm already seeing the difference in my system on a daily basis, and the benefits that they offer, simply not by making huge changes - but by making the small changes, and this book is a great guide in order to get you there. Thanks James!

great in-depth but easy listen
this book is straight to the point with great examples and correlated with researched. because it is a short enough book I've listened through once, printed off the templates and going to listen again and implement some good habits!
this book is definitely worth the listen for all, I've recommend it to everyone!

Supplementary Material Not Included in Audible
Fantastic book, but supplementary material is not Included in audible version of the book, and I could not find it on the author's website. Do I now have to listen again to the whole book, just so I can write down URL of each file he references?
Not happy.

Super helpful stuff here
I really like this guy and find his approach so easy to understand and follow. He’s also got a great voice to listen to. These are tried and proven methods for him, backed up by research and it makes sense. This will help anyone wanting motivation for creating positive habits and a better life. It started helping me from the first couple of chapters. I will relisten many times.
