A Story of Sexual Obsession

Lily:

I should never have agreed to it.

A woman will do a lot to keep her husband happy. But when my husband sells me to the highest bidder - billionaire, former Navy SEAL, pride of Boston's business scene - I agree, not to keep him happy but because it gives me the chance to finally escape. Escape my marriage, escape my debts, escape my life...

Josh Lane demands a steep price: my pride and my morals. But the truth is, I've never felt anything like what I feel for him. He brings color into my gray world. And his insistence that I submit to his commands - his depraved, filthy, amazing commands - only feeds my craving to be taken by him. Again. And again.

I should never have agreed to it, but I'm so glad I did.

Josh:

I don't need to pay to keep women in my bed. Though my preferences may be unorthodox, I never leave a woman unsatisfied - far from it. Lily Boswell, though... Her innocence draws me; her secrets intrigue me. Having her is worth dealing with her cowardly scum of a husband.

I want to release her passions and heal her wounds.

On my terms.

Because the blindfolds and restraints hide more than she could imagine. I must keep her safe from the people who would destroy me - and the demons that haunt my dreams.

Unexpected

I thought that Josh was too controlling and the military stuff would never subside. Then... you understand why. Maybe too much military lingo for the average civilian female, but Lily's art balanced it well. Quite an unusual take on a "prince saving the girl". Worth the time to listen to. Would highly recommend!!

Disappointed

The story was very good. I like the cross between Indecent Proposal and Fifty Shades. I did not like Jeremy York's voice for Josh's character. I did like the strength and spunk of Lily's character. Overall because of Josh's voice the audible was ruined for me.

IT STAYED ON THE BRINK... & NEVER QUITE REACHED GREAT

Josh, a handsome sexy focussed rich Businessman, is at a worthy Fundraising Gala for Injured Military Veterans and that's where he first encounters an intriguing woman - who doesn't know him, his PTSD nightmares, his scars, his reputation, his sexual proclivities or his secrets. Unlike the many shallow and fake women he usually goes for this stunning woman's not looking to impress him, spend his money or lure him into bed - no, she's speaking out in defence of a blind Veteran and to save his innocent Service Dog. Josh is intrigued but nothing more and he certainly wasn't going to act on it.... not until he's formally introduced to the blushing beauty that is Lily but it's by her desperate sweaty much older husband who needs Josh's backing at any cost.... any cost at all.

They both feel the bolt of instant connection, chemistry and attraction but Josh can't rely on just his instincts so a meeting is arranged and a barter is made - he'll back the slimy husband's worthless Project because Martin Poe's Proposition so easily included his wife in the deal. And Josh didn't like this one bit, was determined to find out if Lily was Poe's eager accomplice or just an innocent unaware pawn in need of rescuing... but it would eventually turn out that they'd rescue each other.

Lily was desperate - she had a sick Mom in a Home and had made some catastrophically bad decisions that held her prisoner in a loveless marriage and this handsome stranger was offering her a way out. But the price was inconceivable - her body would become Josh's sex toy for as long as it takes to get her husband's Project off the ground. However, the Project was never going to work, lives would be threatened, intricate secretive plans had to be followed, enemies with deadly intentions had to be caught and painful secrets would eventually be revealed. And along the way Josh would introduce intense flavor and variety to Lily's unfulfilled 'vanilla' sex life with passion, toys, blindfolds, bindings and light Dom demands.... but boundaries were crossed, hearts got involved, someone got hurt and the heartfelt cry for trust was coldly ignored which left disbelief, devastation and months of broken dreams.

I liked the characters, the plot, the dual POV narration and eventually felt the chemistry that built when lust grew into much much more.... but I never heard the "I love you's" during the sexually eventful and emotionally raw outpouring of tenderness and truths that ended the listen. It should've been said, I needed it to be said and, out of all the many 'he a she saids' this was an important said to be said. Also, it cried out for an Epilogue.

Worth a credit? I did enjoy it, there were some nice interactions with secondary characters and there was a mystery, drama and angst amongst the MANY hot sex scenes and YES I thought it creditworthy. However for me, it hovered and stayed on the brink of being a Good listen but it sadly never soared into becoming a GREAT listen.

I needed more...

I bought this audio because Jeremy York and Summer Morton are two of my favorite narrators. They did their best with what they had to work with, but sadly for me it wasn't enough for me to love this book. One of the biggest things for me was the lack of chremistry, I just didn't feel it. At the beginning her husband is a thorn in her side and I guess I expected for him to be a bigger problem than he was. The ending wrapped up too quickly and certain things weren't brought up, for example her mothers situation. Lily was also very forgiving for the whole "I was trying to forget you" scene at the end. Another thing that drove me crazy was the dialogue. Too many he said, she said, I said, that drove me a little nutty. With that said I did like Josh. He needs absolute control in his life and by the end I understood why. I liked the banter with his friends and they were very likeable characters. Lili's character was harder to connect with and understand and not developed as much as Josh. Overall I liked the story but didn't fall in love with it.

Female narration-4.5 stars, French accent needed a bit of work.

Male narration-5 stars

Both narrators are great at voicing different characters.

Not entirely thrilled

I want to say that story was awesome. I was a little disappointed in the end. No “I love you’s” were exchanged even though you could definitely feel the love. I could overlook that with Summer Morton’s wonderful narration of Lily. However Jeremy York was the wrong person to narrate for Josh. At Josh’s 34 years old, the narrator sounded way too old to be Josh’s voice. He just didn’t fit the part. This could’ve been a great listen.

I loved 90% Of The Book

This book was almost a 5 Star listen for me but the ending let the book down.
I thought At the Brink was cross between Fifty Shades, This Man Series and Indecent Proposal. The author does a good job keeping the reader interested in Josh and Lily.

Josh is demanding, controlling, a successful business man and a Navy SEAL. He knows what he wants and who he wants. He has a scarred past and has built up walls to keep his past hidden. Even after all this couple has been through, Josh still keeps his past a secret from Lily.

Lily has always been a victim. Her parents, her husband and now Josh. Their relationship started out as a business deal but over time the couple experienced more. Lily also build up walls and was hesitant to let Josh in but realized she wanted more from him.

Josh and Lily were explosive from the start. Lily was timid at first but was ready to play any game Josh wanted. By the end of the book found the sex to be a little over the top. The couple needed more than sex to bring them together.

The author takes time bringing this couple together throughout the book but I thought the ending was rushed. I also didn't like the last few chapters. This couple deserved a better ending.

Also, it cried out for an Epilogue

Summer Morton and Jeremy York were fantastic with the delivery of the story.
