This touching and hilarious memoir is 100 percent Carol Burnett—funny, irreverent, and irresistible.

Carol Burnett is one of the most beloved and revered actresses and performers in America. The Carol Burnett Show was seen each week by millions of adoring fans and won twenty-five Emmys in its remarkable eleven-year run. Now, in This Time Together, Carol really lets her hair down and tells one funny or touching or memorable story after another.

In engaging anecdotes, Carol discusses her remarkable friendships with stars such as Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, Cary Grant, and Julie Andrews; the background behind famous scenes, like the moment she swept down the stairs in her curtain-rod dress in the legendary “Went with the Wind” skit; and things that would happen only to Carol—the prank with Julie Andrews that went wrong in front of the First Lady; the famous Tarzan Yell that saved her during a mugging; and the time she faked a wooden leg to get served in a famous ice cream emporium.

This poignant look back allows us to cry with the actress during her sorrows, rejoice in her successes, and finally, always, to laugh.

Critic reviews

"These short memories, of the people Burnett met and interviewed over the years, on- and off-camera, bring it back — the golden age of variety shows....Burnett has a writer's eye for the moment, the detail, the slip that reveals character. She's never mean and always grateful."
Los Angeles Times

"Carol was a huge star on television because she was funny, daring, and always genuine. We loved Carol because we felt we knew her. With this book, we do. She trusts us with her personal anecdotes, happy, sad, hilarious and poignant. Thank you Carol. "
—Billy Crystal

"I read This Time Together in one sitting and when I finished I felt like Carol had been sitting beside me telling me these wonderful stories of her life. It's funny, it's endearing and very moving. I cannot recommend it highly enough."
—Julie Andrews

"I grew up watching Carol Burnett. She's an amazing actress, talented writer and legendary comedienne. She inspired me to do what I'm doing today. And believe me, if I knew how to read, I would definitely read this book."
—Ellen DeGeneres

" I love this book because it's written the way she talks--nothing stilted, nothing distanced. You'll read it in one gulp (I did) and then you'll read it again. She's an excellent writer--so spot-on intelligent and hilarious.
—Hal Prince

"Reading Carol Burnett's book, This Time Together, makes me realize that every American family prays that they can have someone as lovely as Carol as their next door neighbor."
—Tony Bennett

Carol Burnett has lived an amazing life. She has intimately known so many that have become historic and classic film and television personalities. Her variety show can still make you laugh so hard your face hurts. This audiobook, read by Carol herself, tells the story of her journey from a poor non-working actress and singer to the most successful comedic variety show on television. There are times I was laughing out loud and times I was crying without shame, all while feeling I was sitting on the couch across from Carol listening to her story. Buy this book. Don't forget the Kleenex!

That Carol read the book herself. You get to hear the highs and lows in her owe words, I would not of bought the book if I did love the actress, now I got to hear her as a human being with some funny moments and some sad moments too.

What was one of the most memorable moments of This Time Together?

Spoilers************************************************************************************Kissing Julie Andrews to crack up either Julie Husband or Carol's I can't remember but the scene is so very funny waiting out side the elevator just kissing as it opens up and it keeps being the wrong people and how. And it's so very funny. I couldn't stop laughing. I was coughing and turning red from laughing so very hard.

Have you listened to any of Carol Burnett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Just her TV show. never a book on tape, I will have to look for others, she was great.

Carol Burnett gives a splendid performance reading this audiobook, award-worthy, in my opinion. The stories range from hilarious to heart-breaking. To hear them in her voice is to savor her talent, but what I appreciated most is her courage, kindness, and gratitude.

A jewel!

Based on the question and answer segments she used to do in her shows, this is a series of anecdotes, most of them humorous, but some bittersweet. Ranging from her upbringing and breakthrough on Broadway to capsule character studies of some of the important cast members and guest stars on her show, this book will invoke fond memories of her tv show and update you on her life since. And no one could do a better job narrating the book than she does. If you loved the show, you'll love the book. And if you don't remember the show, get it for someone in your family who does.

And we're glad we had this time together too
