Artificial Condition continues The Murderbot Diaries, a science fiction series that tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. It appeals to fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans. "As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more.

Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

What it discovers will forever change the way it thinks.

I happened upon this series and had low expectations. But then I found myself looking for an excuse to run errands (and run them slowly) for my wife as i listened to each compelling chapter. The story is just so darn unexpectedly fun. If you like action, sardonic humor, and “logical” explanations of future tech, this is for you.

It is my second time reading this book, and i loved it just as much the second time around. Martha Wells is an exceptional writer. She has created a future full of interesting stories and characters. And Kevin R. Free is an exceptional voice actor. He brings Murderbot to wonderful life.

Love these murder bot books. I’ve read and listened to these books and the narrator makes the story come to life even more. Can’t wait for the next book to be released!

This entire series is excellent. Martha Wells is a delightful writer. Kevin Free has excellent comedic timing and brings the story alive.

If you liked the Martian, then your going to love the Murderbot series, and they get better and better as they go along, I liked the first book the least, but the remaining three are simply a delight to listen to.

Excellent writing from the point of view of the murder bot security unit. This 2nd very carefully, thoughtfully and mindfully evolving story brilliantly presents the growing awareness of the advanced augmented human robot hybrid. Bravo.

Just discovered series

In the life of the self-proclaimed “Murderbot.”

I would have given this 5 stars but the story is muddled in places and the narrator sometimes sounds like he’s underwater. Both of these things make it hard to understand both the plot and the reading. (Which I think is very important)

I love these books ❤️. It is amazing to listen to the complex emotions he experiences. There is some swearing that I do not like, but no sex scenes.
