Follow a motley crew on an exciting journey through space—and one adventurous young explorer who discovers the meaning of family in the far reaches of the universe—in this light-hearted debut space opera from a rising sci-fi star.

Rosemary Harper doesn’t expect much when she joins the crew of the aging Wayfarer. While the patched-up ship has seen better days, it offers her a bed, a chance to explore the far-off corners of the galaxy, and most importantly, some distance from her past. An introspective young woman who learned early to keep to herself, she’s never met anyone remotely like the ship’s diverse crew, including Sissix, the exotic reptilian pilot, chatty engineers Kizzy and Jenks who keep the ship running, and Ashby, their noble captain.

Life aboard the Wayfarer is chaotic and crazy—exactly what Rosemary wants. It’s also about to get extremely dangerous when the crew is offered the job of a lifetime. Tunneling wormholes through space to a distant planet is definitely lucrative and will keep them comfortable for years. But risking her life wasn’t part of the plan. In the far reaches of deep space, the tiny Wayfarer crew will confront a host of unexpected mishaps and thrilling adventures that force them to depend on each other. To survive, Rosemary’s got to learn how to rely on this assortment of oddballs—an experience that teaches her about love and trust, and that having a family isn’t necessarily the worst thing in the universe.

Don't know how good the story is, didn't make it that far. I cannot stand the narrator. Ridiculous pauses between every.... tiny..... piece........... of punctuation. I can't stand it.

Unbearable narrator.

This wonderfully fun, character driven story is reminiscent of Firefly with a dash of Babylon 5 thrown in and yet it still managed to be new and fresh. I am in love with the crew and this book.

I'm in love.

It's a bummer that the narration takes away from this otherwise fun, engaging listen. While her voice is great, the performer uses a strange cadence that often has her putting emphasis on the wrong word or phrase. So much so that I regularly found myself getting confused and having to replay the sentence in my mind, or even in life, in order to puzzle out the intended meaning. It's incredibly distracting and eventually really frustrating.
It's a shame because the story is engaging and there are several cool themes explored via the various main characters and subplots. Except for being somewhat sweary at times it reads rather like a young adult novel - in a good way. I recommend the book, but not this audio production of it. Best enjoyed in text format.

Distracting narration

This is a character-driven space opera, and I enjoyed the story very much. Ms. Dulude's accents and inflection were excellent, but the narration had some strange pauses that marred the pacing.

Fun space opera but narration issues
