Publisher's summary

I assumed I was done running from psychopaths for a while. I guess I was wrong.

Doctor Maxwell Thornton, brilliant ex-surgeon and man most likely to insult you without even trying, seems to have an unwanted penchant for landing in the middle of murder cases.

Since moving from the bustling metropolis of LA to a small town in Texas, Maxwell has struggled to fit in with the eccentric citizens of Rainy Dale. He’s made tiny steps forward, but the only person who truly seems to understand him is Sheriff Royce Callum.

When one of Maxwell’s new patients ends up poisoned to death, the cold blooded killer suspects Maxwell knows a lot more than he actually does. Avoiding homicidal maniacs is always prudent, but once they catch your scent, it’s fight or die.

More Max & Royce Please

This was a really good story. With some friction between Max and Royce, we see their relationship grow even if painfully sometimes. I felt equal parts exasperated and protective of Max. His struggles to understand some social interactions and Royce's honest and understandable reactions created a situation that was quite suspenseful. I was thoroughly engaged in the story. Matt Haynes' narration added to my enjoyment and he does well with his character voices. I hope we get book 4 soon!

Great listen!

Another great add to the series. What I like most about this series is that the couple side of things is balanced with the crime/mystery side. It flows naturally and is realistic on how people react. Matt Haynes brings these personalities to life and I can't wait for the next.

Amazing addition!

This is another amazing addition in Rainy Dale! This one is a rollercoaster with the the murders going on in this town but also with the relationship of Maxwell and Royce. Matt Haynes does another amazing job with this narration. He just brings this story to life. I can't wait for the next one.

oh Maxwell

I seriously love the somewhat clueless maybe even socially awkward the man has no filter Dr. Maxwell Thornton! this series has been wonderful, as poor Dr. Thornton keeps landing on the middle of homicides in the Town of Rainydale.
Matt Haynes does a wonderful job portraying both Maxwell and Royce as each chapter from one or the others POV.
The towns folk of Rainydale help set the small town back drop and I have enjoyed every book in this series, and I'm looking forward to the next one being made available in audio!

MUST OWN

Oh my goodness. Everything about this story is just fantastic.I am so in love with these two guys. Max snuck up on my heart in book 1 and now I am his BFF . My heart breaks for him. This book took my heart on more of an emotional rollercoaster ride for sure. Matt the narrator did such a fantastic job in this one he made my heart break in half. This series is must-own for sure. It has everything you need a good book.

Good story. Good narration.

The number of murders happening in a small Texas town is getting a bit ridiculous, but that doesn't make the story any less entertaining. These not-so-cozy mystery have a special charm. I think it's the characters. The author does a wonderful job of capturing the idiosyncrasies of small town life and the people who make that life unique.

Maxwell and Royce are getting closer, but the strain of all murders is starting to take a toll on both Maxwell and Royce. I appreciate how the author portrays the challenges of two distinctly different people being in a relationship. They are still getting to know each other and test each other's boundaries.

The narration is a great addition to the story, and I look forward to more performances by Matt Haynes who is skilled at creating distinct voices for a large cast of characters.

GREAT ADDITION TO SERIES

This is book 3 in the series, and you really want to read them in order. I've really been enjoying these books going to audio. I adore Maxwell. You can understand in his interactions with people why they have trouble with him, but being in his head and seeing how hard he tries -you can't help but love him. His struggles with social awkwardness just tug at my heartstrings.

We have a new murder to solve, which Max can't stay out of no matter how hard he tries. We have holidays coming which Maxwell just does not know what to do with. We have the introduction of River!

I just want to put Max in bubble wrap and ship him away from Rainy Dale sometimes. I love seeing Girdy's loyalty to him. So few people really take the time to understand him.

Narration is good, as with the others in the series. Cannot wait til the next comes on audio.

This is a great series/audio and I highly recommend.
