Story
The dentist was found with a blackened hole below his right temple. A pistol lay on the floor near his out flung right hand. Later, one of his patients was found dead from a lethal dose of local anaesthetic. A clear case of murder and suicide. But why would a dentist commit a crime in the middle of a busy day of appointments? A shoe buckle holds the key to the mystery. Now - in the words of the rhyme - can Poirot pick up the sticks and lay them straight?

Story
From seat number nine, Hercule Poirot is almost ideally placed to observe his fellow air travelers on this short flight from Paris to London. Over to his right sits a pretty young woman, clearly infatuated with the man opposite. Ahead, in seat number 13, is the Countess of Horbury, horribly addicted to cocaine and not doing too good a job of concealing it. Across the gangway in seat number eight, a writer of detective fiction is being troubled by an aggressive wasp. Yes, Poirot is almost ideally placed to take it all in.

Story
Beautiful young Elinor Carlisle stood serenely in the dock, accused of the murder of Mary Gerrard, her rival in love. The evidence was damning: only Elinor had the motive, the opportunity, and the means to administer the fatal poison. Yet, inside the hostile courtroom, only one man still presumed Elinor was innocent until proven guilty: Hercule Poirot was all that stood between Elinor and the gallows.

But how could she have stabbed Lord Edgware in his library at exactly the same time she was seen dining with friends? It's a case that almost proves to be too much for the great Poirot.

Publisher's Summary
Among the towering red cliffs of Petra, like some monstrous swollen Buddha, sits the corpse of Mrs.Boynton. A tiny puncture mark on her wrist is the only sign of the fatal injection that killed her.
With only 24 hours available to solve the mystery, Hercule Poirot recalled a chance remark he'd overheard back in Jerusalem: "You see, don't you, that she's got to be killed?" Mrs. Boynton was, indeed, the most detestable woman he'd ever met....

Hercules Poirot for the Win!
Hercules Poirot is the best fiction characters ever! This is one of the best older Poirot books. The more she writes the worse she got... But this book was fantastic. Of course Poirot has to play match maker... Not a usual end to a Christie book but it was definitely good for a change.
Hugh Fraser is amazing!!! He voices most of the Poirot books some are done by David Suchet. His voices are incredible. This was a book you definitely have to get!

Family Secrets
If you could sum up Appointment with Death in three words, what would they be?
She must die.
What other book might you compare Appointment with Death to and why?
This is a wonderful Christie, full of interesting characters, a compelling mystery with plenty of suspects, and a thoroughly loathsome victim. Rather like her "Murder in Mesopotamia" for the exotic setting.
Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the epilogue where we find out what happened to the family after the crime was solved.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not "moved" really, but I did enjoy the "gathering of the suspects" scene.

It was good but a little too complicated and the who did it seemed forced and much of an after thought. Hercule had very little to do until the end not much emotional connection to the characters.

The murder was right on time.
Hugh Fraser delivers this story with great skill. The odd characters slowly come to life, as we wait for the murderer to strike. Poroit enters the story late in the game, but solves the riddle using his little grey cells.
