Murder, Mayhem, and Magic

College prepares you for many things, and the Army even more, but neither prepared Dalton Graham for the murder that occurred across the hall, or the fact that he was its intended victim.

Assailed and assaulted by inhuman, magic wielding villains who want nothing more than his death - he goes on the run, protected by the mysterious and lethal Umi Nitaku, who is equal parts shy stranger and beautiful angel of death.

As they flee from one danger to another, he begins to discover the arcane ability that is his birthright, and the reason why it has entire houses of the Eloim united against him.

He will need all his courage and cunning if he is to avoid a violent death and a shallow grave.

He will need the truest of friends and powerful magic if wants to be anything more than....

Another Fairy Bastard

If you like the snarkiness of Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series, the romantic angst and powerful female characters in Kim Harrison's The Hollows, or the resourceful wizard in the action packed Dresden Files by Jim Butcher; then you are sure to love Dalton Graham in Another Fairy Bastard.

This is a charmingly explained novel !

Trying to find a good book to spend your credit on? Safe bet you will be happy you did. Great characters, believable voices, action, magic and violence...and a lot to laugh at. I didn't expect that, but did love it

Stunning

Interesting world. Loved the magic, and the guns, the swords and the girls. Was finally happy to see and hear a story where the female romantic lead was tougher and more noble than the guy. Was this really written by a guy? Great job Stewart Daniels! Something about your voice lets me enjoy the story without getting hung up on guys doing girl voices or girls doing guy voices. Loved this. Website says September for the next one. I'll be waiting.

robotic

I almost never bother to rate books but this one i felt I had to warn people about. The characters are one dimensional and the conversations are stilted. when I say stilted I mean there were multiple times where I felt sure a computer AI wrote the conversation. No one uses contractions, ever. Every spoken word is nearly completely void of emotion as written.
This was the old movie adage of failing to show not tell in a book.

The narrator could not handle the female voices well and multiple times I got confused as to which of the two love interests were speaking. The tone and cadence really could have used a lot more variety as well.

I managed to make it through the whole book even with the MCs completely over the top power set but recommend a pass on this one.

Endorse to all of my friends!

When you have vision problems, sometimes you have to settle for a book instead of find a great one. Not this time. I was blown away by this.

excellent

Wow. Great characters. I like to listen while I walk. I walked an extra 2 miles today because I wanted to finish the chapter. Is that bad?

This book is a snappy listen !

I was sad when I finished and found out the next one isn't out yet. Not for a few months. It was cool to see what other people visualized Umi, Dalt and Katie as, though.

Finally an audiobook where the narrator adds to the experience instead of distracts. Nice mix of storyline and character voices. I could listen to this all day. Um, I guess I already did.

Amazing

Um, this audiobook should come with a warning "Do not start if you have to work tomorrow." It is going to be a long day but at least I am still smiling.

Unexpected

I listened to this because I liked some of the work Stewart Daniels has done before. I didn't expect to find a really great book in the process. OMG When does the next book come out? I can't wait!
