Loved hearing this read by Megan Followes!

I'm a big Anne fan from way back and it was even better to hear it read by Megan Followes. I think she does an amazing job reading Davy's voice and all the others in this book as well. Although I do prefer Unabridged books on the whole, this one is great! I've listened to this one many times and it's I turn to when I want to be comforted!

Anne of the Island

As Amethysta said, Megan Follows is an amazing performer/reader in this delightful third book in the irrepressible and irresistible Anne series. Though this edition happens to be abridged, it is truly incredible; it's no wonder Megan won the Award for best actress for Anne of Green Gables! Anne is now growing up and facing decisions and obstacles in her life that she hadn't expected to find, but with the poise and grace that only Anne carries she succeeds and her honest innocence remains true to the end.

nostalgia

Ok, I picked this up on sale 100% for childhood nostalgia. When I was a kid I listened to books on tape every night before bed (my parents got tired of the "one more story" routine around age 7). This was one my grandma bought me, back before I cared about abridged versions of books, and the narrator is the girl who was the actress in the movies. She does a great job as a narrator or what is essentially more like a one-person radio play adaptation than the whole novel. I do have to agree and comment with the other reviewers on the poor audio however, but from the added perspective that I own the cassette tape version which actually sounds BETTER on an ancient tape player than this digital download does. It literally sounds like someone played the tape into a bad microphone; which may have been what happened since who knows what the quality of the original recording was in when they decided to transfer it. I feel like they could have cleaned up the sound digitally. If you listened to this back in the 90s, like the narrator, and don't really mind the abridgment then buy it on sale when it drops down to $3-4, but definately don't use a credit.

abridged

these are abridged and the quality is terrible. I'm very disappointed. As always Megan Follows is the best Anne though

Megan Follows brings life to the abridged classic.

I love reading Anne of the Island, but, it was sad that most of the parts which I loved were cut short or entirely missed in this version. So, instead, I was glad that Megan Follows was reading this book or I am not sure I would have enjoyed it. It made me imagine so much about what the Sequel Anne movie could have been.

A Delight

A lovely tale of kinder, gentler times. So very soul soothing and uplifting, just what's needed in the dark days of the summer of 2020.

Megan Follows is the best

Yes, it's disappointing that this is an abridged version of the book and the sound quality is pretty poor (being, I believe, cassette recordings when first released). But Megan Follows is a brilliant narrator of these books and I enjoyed it immensely nonetheless. Please please please could Megan Follows be recorded reading the whole series of books unabridged? I'd buy them all!
