Publisher's summary

With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century. In this story of "kindred spirits", McAdams' touching and heartfelt narration proves she is just that - bonded on a deep level to this shimmering classic.

When aging brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help with chores around their farm, Green Gables on Prince Edward Island, neither is prepared for the feisty and imaginative redheaded girl who is mistakenly brought to them instead. Nor are they prepared for the way in which she will change their lives. Through a series of hilarious misadventures, Anne's uncompromising spirit makes her a striking presence in the close-knit village, bringing new friendships, first crushes, and, for her foster parents, a love and openness unimaginable before her arrival.

AMAZING!!

This was an indescribably lovely book because of the beauty of the descriptiveness of all the beauties of nature and many deep emotions felt by the main character, Anne which allowed the listener to feel as though present among it all. It marvelously told of how the main character, Anne, thrived despite many of the difficult and unfortunate circumstances of her past and present that she dealt with almost daily at times but got through. Lastly, it is an example of the extreme sacrifice Anne made to care for her ailing adoptive mother despite an opportunity afforded her of a much coveted scholarship to continue her education and put aside her tremendous drive to go further and pursue a future in which she would likely have lead her to do great things given her superior intellectual gifts as well as a big heart. Rachel McAdam's narration was superb and her pleasant voice easy to listen to via audio books. I highly recommend this book.

McAdams not that great.

Would you consider the audio edition of Anne of Green Gables to be better than the print version?

I'm a huge fan of "Anne of Green Gables" and Rachel McAdams. Ms. McAdams is one of our finest actresses, playing many, many roles in her acting career, that's why I was excited about Ms. McAdams narrating this book. After listening, the character voices never changed. Ms. McAdams used the same voice throughout the entire book. At times, she'd change slightly, but not enough to make the story as interesting as it really is. Stick with other narrations, this one isn't well done. Sorry...

The Perfect Voice for Anne Shirley

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Most definitely, I would recommend this book to a friend. I would recommend it to someone like myself, who has read the entire series many times over or someone who was being introduced to Anne for the very first time. Rachel McAdams does such a wonderful job giving a voice to the story and bringing it to life.

Which character – as performed by Rachel McAdams – was your favorite?

As the headline implies, Rachel McAdams gave Anne Shirley the perfect voice. She nailed the essence of each character truth be told.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

SPOILER ALERT! This book is always an emotional one for me, as Anne is an emotional character. Her adventurous spirit and knack for mischief always makes me laugh and...of course when Matthew dies, I feel miserable.

Any additional comments?

I sincerely hope that Rachel McAdams will delight Anne Shirley fans even further by narrating the rest of the series. Big undertaking, I know, but she was so perfect. It was such a treat sharing this book with my own little daughter on a long road trip home for Thanksgiving. McAdams' performance made every mile worth it.

Brilliant, Witty and beautiful storyline

This book has withstood generation after generation of young (and old😉) readers! I read this with my daughter recently, after twenty years of letting the paperback get dusty on the shelf. This audible makes the characters come to life! Thank you audible!

Great story and great narrator!

Rachel McAdams did a great job of narrating! Although I watched the show when I was a little girl I never read the book. I enjoyed it thoroughly and I am excited to rewatch the show.

New favorite book!

I never read Anne of green gables as a child but am so glad to have found it. Rachel McAdams' performance was wonderful and I think the story is the perfect story in every way. Wholesome, interesting and full of Anne's positive outlook on life left me a better person. The kind of book you wish would never end!
