Hard to listen to

I did not care for… the narrator’s… style. Lots of oddly… placed pauses. And the music in the background the ENTIRE time was just irritating. GREAT book though! I just wish I could have sampled it before purchasing.
Edit: (Three quarters of the way through the book) Perhaps most annoying, however, are the myriad of mispronunciations that riddle the reading! In an obvious reference to Romeo and Juliet, the narrator slaughters with “Catapults and Montains.” Emily Starr, our protagonist, is consistently read as “Emily Start.” (On the occasions where her middle name is included, we get “Emily Burn Start” instead of “Emily Byrd Starr.”) Ilse’s name is torn to shreds more than once. “Chessie Cat” becomes “Cheesie Cat.” Several times he reads “Elizabeth” instead of “Emily,” and once the poet Browning is referred to as “Brownell” (Emily’s teacher) whereupon the narrator explains that he misread it! Has he no equipment with which to re-record? It was like he was trying to read the book in one take without previewing what he was reading! And the incessant music is now infuriating. If you love this book like I do, do yourself a favor: Skip this recording!!

Not my style

I didn’t care for narrating style. The constant piano music playing in the background is very distracting. I abandoned this book less than half way through because of the narration style.
