Harry Bosch finds himself yet again in charge of a case that no one else will touch. This time his job is to nail the killer of hot shot black lawyer Howard Elias. Elias has been found murdered on the eve of going to court on behalf of Michael Harris, a man the LAPD believes guilty of the rape and murder of a twelve-year-old girl. Elias had let it be known that the aim of his civil case was not only to reveal the real killer but to target and bring down the racist cops who beat up his client during a violent interrogation.

Now it's all down to Bosch - and he's got to take a long, hard look at some of his colleagues in a police department that is rife with suspicion and hatred.

They've changed the guy who used to read these books. This audiobook sounds like it's read by the same guy who does voiceover in action movie commercials. It's quite dreadful to listen to....

The story line was weaker than those of Connelly's previous works. It was kind of slow in the beginning but picked up the pace toward the end.

Another good book by Michael Conelly

People who've criticized the narrator are obviously used to a certain style of narration. I've been binging on Harry Bosch stories and I can see how different the old narrator's style from this one. Approach this narrator with an open mind and you'll appreciate his style and talent as well.

Enjoyed every moment despite the weird reviews

I enjoyed the story but not enjoy the narration. It lacked emotion and all characters sounded similar.

Good story ... Bad narration

A great story with the usual twists and turn you expect from Connelly, but the narration is not the best. Bit one dimensional, very ‘every sentence is the most important sentence of the book’, and lacked a bit of variety in tone and inflection. Might have been a better read than listen, but still got through it and enjoyed it until the end. Give it a listen if you can get comfortable with the slightly boring narration, otherwise find a kindle version.

Enjoyable, but probably better to read than listen to.
