About this listen

Some say the Hotel Tempesta is cursed, but its owner, Mr. Gallo, refuses to believe it. When he's brutally murdered one night, the suspicion falls on his guests. Ten suspects in total. And Penny Green is one of them.

Does Mr Gallo's murder have anything to do with the criminal mastermind on the run from America? Penny and Inspector James Blakely must negotiate a world of courtesans, stolen paintings, and secret codes to prove Penny's innocence and uncover the truth.

Loved the developing of these characters and the storyline was unusual. Sincerely hope this is not the last novel with these main specific characters.

Horror Hotel Mystery

For me this was the weakest book in the series so far. I just didn't find the plot very interesting. If you are going to write a Christie-esque murder-at-the-hotel book, then you need to make it either tongue-in-cheek or completely surprising. This book does neither. Like another reviewer, I am not crazy about Penny's love interest, James. I'm not a romance reader, but I'm pretty sure you are not supposed to make the red-herring character more appealing than the hero. Penny should have married Francis! Or, better still, stayed a spinster and cherished her friendship with Francis. James treated both Penny and Charlotte abominably! So, Ms. Organ, since I suspect you're not going to dump James in favor of Francis, please get James and Penny married off and forget about romance.

I like the series and I will finish the last two books but James, as a Scotland Yard detective is pitiful. I think Penny can kick his butt. He couldn't make up his mind about getting married until the very day...what kind of police officer is he? Every body can beat him up! He deserved his punishment. Penny isn't just stubborn; she is a silly airhead who stumbles around getting herself into trouble because of her stupidity. They do manage to solve the crimes but it is because they blunder into the solution not because of any genius on their part!

Main Characters Are Weak!

Not my favorite book in the series. Penny has become very whiny and James has little conviction. The story was good but man, the main characters were really irritating in this book. Hoping things look up in the next book!!

Not my favorite

This is one of the better books in the series. The mystery is good, and the interaction of the characters is great.

Great Mystery and romance

Another great addition to this series. It got a little cloudy as to what was going on though

James faces his vicious ex fiancé in court and it is not pretty. Well in to the next!

This story felt vague and apathetic from start to finish. I’m very disappointed in Penny. Her character has definitely changed from a smart independent 35yr old trailblazer to a wheedling whining dummy. When she thought there was a good reason to attend James’ trail (a page devoted to whining “But I want to be there”) and then was actually surprised at what happened I had to take a break. For Pete’s sake.

Sadly this one lost me…
