While enjoying a rare weekend off from her duties as an agent with the Investigative Services Branch, Felicity Harland learns that a young couple has turned up dead in Gates of the Arctic National Park. Harland recruits her partner, ex-Navy SEAL Ferdinand “Hux” Huxley, to join her in the investigation.

After processing the peculiar scene where the couple perished, Harland and Hux decide that this was no tragic accident. They soon hear about a man living off the land, recruiting couples to his “fertility cult” in the Arctic. Could this survivalist have played a role in the couple’s death?

Determined to get to the truth before anyone else meets a similar fate, Harland and Hux venture deep into the backcountry to find the cult’s campsite. But what they find there tests their relationship in ways they never imagined—and thrusts them into a dangerous and deadly game.

The story line is actually good. The way it is written is tedious at times. The author spends a great deal of time explaining the awkwardness between the 2 main characters. Which is a bit confusing given the personalities they are created with. It makes it choppy somehow. I am not sure if it is all the author or the way the narrator reads but it was painful at times to listen. I don't want to give away the story lines but I did like how it all turned out in the end. However, that being said if I hadn't picked up the final book already I wouldn't be finishing this series. It will probably take me a while to actually listen to it(if I ever do)

Good story line, needs some finesse to be worth the credit and time.

Naudus was the narrator for Book and was excellant. Zuckerman for Book 2 was lacking in personality’s for the characters especially Huck’s. So disappointed overall! The narration can really can keep the book from being either awesome or just ok.

An Unforgiving Place is a fast-paced, captivating read that kept me intrigued throughout the entire book. The author's intricate, beautifully-written descriptions of the Alaskan wilderness as well as the palpable chemistry between the two main characters were highlights of this compelling and suspenseful mystery. You can't help but root for Harland and Hux as they navigate intensely dangerous terrain and cryptic side characters. I loved the first book in the series too, and thought the author did a great job further developing both the individual characters and their relationship with each other. However, if you didn't read Vanishing Edge, this book is still amazing and can stand on its own. I am eagerly awaiting more twisty adventures from Claire Kells!
Cady Zuckerman is also wonderful and added to my enjoyment of this book.
