Publisher's Summary

November 1831. After fleeing London in infamy more than two years prior, Lady Kiera Darby's return to the city is anything but mundane, though not for the reasons she expected. A gang of body snatchers is arrested on suspicion of imitating the notorious misdeeds of Edinburgh criminals Burke and Hare - killing people from the streets and selling their bodies to medical schools. Then Kiera's past - a past she thought she'd finally made peace with - rises up to haunt her.

All of London is horrified by the evidence that "burkers" are, indeed, at work in their city. The terrified populace hovers on a knife's edge, ready to take their enmity out on any likely suspect. And when Kiera receives a letter of blackmail, threatening to divulge details about her late anatomist husband's involvement with the body snatchers and wrongfully implicate her, she begins to apprehend just how precarious her situation is. Not only for herself, but also her new husband and investigative partner, Sebastian Gage, and their unborn child.

Meanwhile, the young scion of a noble family has been found murdered a block from his home, and the man's family wants Kiera and Gage to investigate. Is it a failed attempt by the London burkers, having left the body behind, or the crime of someone much closer to home?

Astounding

Ah, Anna, you have done it again. I think the series can’t get any better, and you deliver another masterpiece! Beautiful, with twists and turns, a lovely romance, and deep character development. I absolutely can’t wait until the next book!!

All about gossip

I've liked two earlier books in this series. This was very not good It consisted primarily of snobby social prejudice and gossip and discussion about it. And yes, Heather Wilds has a pleasant voice frequency but she reads like a robot.

I don’t think I will listen to any more of these

I had a difficult time getting through the first book due to the narration. However I pushed through and binged the books. I got kind of used to it. After waiting for this one to come out, I just don’t think I can handle the narration. It’s not exactly monotone. But rhythmic. Not at all expressive. I hear the rhythm of the narration more than the story. I’m struggling to finish this book.

Love this series

The characters and storylines are well developed and the narrator does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

Narration is truly awful

I felt as though the narrator was trying to tell us she had scored off another. All of her sentences went up or down at the end. one loses track of the story in trying to figure out her tone. Do not recommend.

Great, but...

You have to read the previous books to understand the character motivations. If you have the time and the credit, you should go for it. Very “a la Sherlock Holmes” but with a Lady Artist who has deep understanding of human Anatomy.

Thrilling

Step back into time to try to solve few murders like Gage and Kiera. I actually solved it before they told us. I don't usually do it but I did. I like solving puzzles. I like all the characters Kiera, Gage, her sister Alanna, Trevor. Lookimg forward to the next day Darby mystery .

The book to put you to sleep

Definitely struggled to finish. The series has become very boring. The plots are so so. The ending is dull. Will be the last one I purchase. Give this a pass.

Poor narration ruins enjoyment

I look forward to the releases of the Lady Darby books and always pre-order the Audible versions. I won’t do that again.

I forgot how much I dislike the narrator. Because of the cringe-worthiness of the narration I can only rate this a 3. The story is good and must be better as a print or e-book. I enjoy the adventures of Keira and Gage. Finishing this book, though, was a chore.

I will probably pre-order the next book (what could possibly go wrong at a Twelfth Night house party in Scotland?) but it will not be an audiobook. I’m sorry, Anna.
