Instant #1 National Bestseller!
“A monumental contribution to comprehending the motivation and distinguished service of American warriors. American Heroes is a book that every citizen should read.”
— Association of the United States Army
From the authors of Walk in My Combat Boots, “American Heroes is a gripping collection of firsthand accounts…capturing the indomitable spirit of our nation’s finest” (Jack Carr, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Terminal List series).
U.S. soldiers who served in overseas conflicts—from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan—share true stories of the actions that earned them some of America’s most distinguished military medals, up to and including the Medal of Honor.
They never acted alone, but always in the spirit of camaraderie, patriotism, and for the good of our beloved country.
There has never been a better time for all of us to think about duty, sacrifice, and what it means to be an American hero.

Following the 9/11 attacks, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld directed the Marine Corps to establish a unit that would answer to US Special Operations Command. The eighty-six-man "Detachment One" was formed with a two-year charter to train and deploy as a "proof-of-concept" to assess the viability of a larger Marine Special Operations contribution in support of the Global War on Terror. The War on Warriors uncovers the deep roots of our dysfunction—a society that has forgotten the men who take risks, cut through red tape, and get their hands dirty. The only kind of men prepared to face the dangers that the Left pretends don’t exist. Unlike issues of education or taxes or crime, this problem doesn’t have a zip code solution. We can’t move away from it. We can’t avoid it. We have only one Pentagon. Either we take it back or surrender it altogether.

Scott Bradley James arrives in Annapolis, Maryland, as a plebe in the class of 1941 without a terribly good idea why he wants to be a naval officer, other than that his father was a sailor, and he wants to see the world, whatever that means. Scott and his roommate become fast friends, and, after surviving scrapes of their own making, the two fetch up at Pearl Harbor. War is brewing, and their class has graduated early. They have been sent to battle stations.

Reseñas de la Crítica
“James Patterson's American Heroes is a compelling work of nonfiction that should not be missed. A riveting chronicle of valor, humanity, and sacrifice, the diverse stories within the book's pages represent the very threads that hold our flag together.”
—Mark Greaney, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Chaos Agent, a Gray Man novel
“America at its best: ordinary Americans who found extraordinary courage and helped write our proud history in the process.”
—Congressman Seth Moulton, Marine Veteran
“American Heroes delivers compelling accounts of men and women at war. You can almost hear the bullets as you read these powerful stories told by and about selfless warriors. It’s a striking reminder that America’s highest awards for valor are more often earned by saving lives than by taking them.”
—ADM E. T. Olson, USN (Ret.), former CDR (USSOCOM)

"Guns up!" was the battle cry that sent machine gunners racing forward with their M60s to mow down the enemy, hoping that this wasn't the day they would meet their deaths. Marine Johnnie Clark heard that the life expectancy of a machine gunner in Vietnam was seven to ten seconds after a firefight began. Johnnie was only eighteen when he got there, at the height of the bloody Tet Offensive at Hue, and he quickly realized the grim statistic held a chilling truth.

Historia
"Guns up!" was the battle cry that sent machine gunners racing forward with their M60s to mow down the enemy, hoping that this wasn't the day they would meet their deaths. Marine Johnnie Clark heard that the life expectancy of a machine gunner in Vietnam was seven to ten seconds after a firefight began. Johnnie was only eighteen when he got there, at the height of the bloody Tet Offensive at Hue, and he quickly realized the grim statistic held a chilling truth.

Historia
Inside our military is a team of operators whose work is so secretive that the name of the unit itself is classified. Highly-trained in warfare, self-defense, infiltration, and deep surveillance, "the Unit," as the Department of Defense has asked us to refer to it, has been responsible for preventing dozens of terrorist attacks in the Western world. Never before has a member of this unit shared their story — until now.

What my Dad never told me
My Father,Master Sergeant Matthew J Tworek was a Master Sergeant,CrewChief,in the Air Force during World War II…loved the B17’s..flew over Normandy 2x,along with other missions..always walked with a limp due to shrapnel..he died in 1972 never telling me of his missions until my daughters husband, interested in the war, looked him up..I wish he would have told me his stories..this book makes me think of what he saw & went thru..thank you for revealing what He went thru..our veterans are the the greatest

One of the best books of American Heroes
I cannot tell you how much this old Navy vet lived this book. It is an honor for me to call these men and women my brothers and sisters in arms. Some of their stories made tears of sadness and anger surface as I heard the loss of their lives.

Life Lesson Learned
I listened to the author's interview on the Jordan Harbinger Show, and I listened to this book. There are life lessons learned from the stories the soldiers or their families told. Your mind is stronger than your body.

The true horrors of war as spoken by the men who lived to tell it
This book should be a must-read for all high school students who have no idea about what the soldiers in our wars sacrificed so that they can live free. Each one of these men is a hero by any definition. Well written and well read by the author.
