Resumen del Editor

Shapeshifters exist. Monsters are real. And no good deed goes unpunished.

Nursing student Ellie St. James didn’t mean to get involved in a war between rival gangs of shifters, but saving the life of a local mob boss’s child has dragged her into one. When Ellie’s life is threatened because of her involvement, she’s forced to go on the run, protected by Carter Ballis, head of security for the mobster’s family, and a lethal shifter himself.

Blood, fire, and warfare weren’t part of Ellie’s plans, but even if she survives, her life will never be the same. The world is more than she knew, and she’s seen too much. People capable of morphing into deadly creatures from legends and folklore around the globe are coming for her. The cost of staying alive means trusting Carter to defend her, and he’s every bit as frightening as the creatures that want her dead....

Great Story!!

Ashes On The Earth is the first book in the Stones of Fire series by Sarah Ashwood.
Well written and a very intriguing storyline. The audio narration is very well read and enjoyable. I thought this was a great beginning and can't wait for the next book!

wow Screenshot

This was a great book. The story moved along with no dragging. Narrator was perfect enough so that the book it self shined through. I can not wait for the next book.

Unique

I love shifter genres. This is a first for this author, and Sarah Ashwood did not disappoint! The storyline and the characters are unique in who/why they shift, and their background of how they became shifters even more so. I already have book 2 and am ready to start it immediately!!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and Melissa K Benson is a talented narrator. She's got a great voice, and her characters are believable. I especially loved Ellie. Her voice is perfectly performed (I especially enjoyed her 'attitude').
I'll let you know how book 2 is when I'm finished!

ashes

really enjoyed the storyline for this book and some of the characters in it. It has a promising idea that had me very intrigued. My only complaint was a certain character was just not to my taste and I couldn't like her, at all. Otherwise I enjoyed the book

Really Good Shifter Story

This was my first experience with Sarah Ashwood's work, and I enjoyed it. This book started out great, it slowed down in the middle, and then it ended on a cliffhanger; therefore, it engendered a lot of mixed emotions for me. I loved the author's use of Greek mythology creatures for the shifter characters; however, the female human protagonist was at times strong, but at other times rather feeble as a character. The story had plenty of action and even some humor. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Melissa Kay Benson's narration was entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Okay, but didn't like main character

This is an interesting take on shifters. Not just your run of the mill shifters but a wide variety in this world. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the heroine. I just found her really naive and annoying. She could have been a lot stronger she is studying to be a nurse, but I found her to be more like a whiny preteen than the age she was supposed to be. It could also be the way the narrator did her voice. Fortunately, the other characters are pretty good.

Baskerville Book Reviews

I’ve stated before that I have a weakness for this type of story. I’m a big fan of secret, underground battles between paranormal entities. I made the mistake of reading the summary before listening to the book, something I normally never do. While I was expecting the reveal that shifters were real, it still felt well done and caught me off guard.

The premise of a shifter needing to protect an innocent human is interesting. It constantly puts them in situations that are intense and exciting, sure to keep you glued to the page or listening to see what happens next. The chemistry between the protagonists, even if they refuse to admit it or acknowledge it has my inner romantic smiling.

The characters and their motivations are all realistic and compelling. Even the villains aren’t evil for the sake of being evil. It’s sensible that both sides feel they’re in the right and it makes for a better story. Every character brings something to the story and I can’t wait to start book 2 to see where things go.

At the time of this review, only the first 2 books are on audible. Normally this would be something I’d be upset about. But this is one of those rare books/series that I discover and know I’m likely going to be purchasing a full physical set.

The narrator is good, for the most part. I got seriously sick of hearing her mispronounce familiar and prescription over and over. Prescription is bad enough, learn how to read, the r is before the e. But farmiliar is just insufferable. Where the hell do people get a second r from? I can’t stand listening to narrators mispronounce basic words over and over, it’s a distraction from the story in the most annoying way possible.
