Gets better as the story progresses

I do not normally read romance novels and I'm not the target audience for this book. I'm a middle aged man and I normally read science fiction or fantasy. However, I was given the book for free and I like trying new things.

Even though I'm not the target audience, the book grew on me over time. I thought it started very slowly and I didn't think I'd like the story initially. It clicked towards the last quarter of the book though.

People who like romance will probably enjoy this book.

Captivating

Kaiya and Caleb have been in love since high school and on into adulthood. However, their romance has been fraught with misunderstandings, missed opportunities, and more.

The author, Jessica Love, weaves an engaging story of love revolving around misunderstandings, weak confidence, missed opportunities, and other trials and tribulations those in love have experienced. The interactions and dialogue that are both emotional and situational between Kaiya and Caleb, and the other characters are realistic. This aspect of the narrative draws the listener in and keeps them captivated. The plot twists, especially at the end, are both satisfying and move the narrative forward solidly. The perspective shift was skillfully executed, maintaining a seamless narrative flow.

Alison Ewing, the narrator, provides an excellent performance. She speaks clearly and is deliberate in her pauses and delivery enhancing the flow and narrative. She interjects the appropriate emotion as well as energy into the narrative thus building the relationships accordingly.

A captivating romantic relationship and journey that is authentic and immersive. Highly recommend!
