Brody Caldwell, deputy sheriff and alpha of the Blood Moon, Texas pack, receives a phone call on the eve of a crucial summit between humans, shapeshifters and vampires. An assassination attempt has been made against the leader of the werewolf council. One of his brothers claims responsibility. After a series of attacks and increasing hostility from the council, Brody seeks out a former source to get answers, London Blake, the fierce and beautiful former alpha of the Austin, Texas pack.

Two years ago, London was exiled by the werewolf council for a crime she didn't commit. With her pack subject to human rights violations and the council refusing to listen, London turns to Brody to help her gather the intelligence needed to clear her name.

Someone wants them silenced. Together they will have to race against the clock to discover who is behind the attacks before they derail the paranormal peace summit.

ALPHA is part of the Blood Moon, Texas Shifters series. Sizzling hot romance. Guaranteed HEA.

This is the first book I listened to in this series and I don't think I missed anything but will try to grab the first 3 books. This is London and Brody's story and is very compelling, full of action, sweet romance, family issues and evil bad guys. The narrator's voice is very flat especially at the beginning it did get a bit better towards the end, somewhat differentiates the different characters but didn't like it at all, I hope Ms. Kinney finds someone better to vice her stories they deserve it.

I love to check out new-to-me authors, so when I came across this one, I did not pay attention to the fact that it was book 4 in a series. While I personally think the author did a good job of keeping that from being an issue, I strongly recommend that you start at the beginning. I will be backtracking myself, as this was a great story!
All that being said, I do not think that the audio version did it justice. Honestly, I'm hoping any other audiobooks in the series have a different narrator.

The Blood Moon, Texas Shifters Series feels like the werewolf version of True Blood with the reality of today's real life oppression by the government on migrants applied to supernaturals in the series. Unlike True Blood, Blood Moon, Texas Shifters focuses on a single couple in each book.

Two Alphas torn between love and loyalty to their respective packs. London is a fallen former Alpha of the Austin pack. Two long years have past since she was set up as the fall werewolf and, replaced by a new alpha. Still trying to clear her name and get her former pack back on track from which is has fallen and continues to go astray she needs help. Brody is the current Alpha of the Blood Moon pack, weighed down by his job as deputy sheriff, his obligations to the pack and family and beholden to the council's overview London is another in a long line of issues to deal with.

The ongoing problem of humans being distrustful of supernaturals is a constant pressure that increases the council's views of two alphas mating. Fear of uniting two packs resulting in super packs makes the council against Blake and London's relationship, even though she is no longer in a leadership role.

Blake is a cinnamon roll alpha with a donut loving dog who is quirky and their relationship helps to lighten the heavy issues the book contains. The irony of a werewolf having a dog as a pet makes me chuckle.

Story: 4 Stars, Narration: 1 Star, Overall average: 2.5 Stars (Rounded Up to 3)

'Alpha', the fourth installment of the 'Blood Moon, Texas Shifter' series is the best book in the series up until this point, but the unfortunate tragedy of this audiobook is the narrator is the worst narrator I have ever endured. I listen to hundreds of audiobooks per year and I am not being hyperbolic when I make that claim. The narrator's voice often sounded like chipmunks (think 'Alvin & The Chipmunks') at different pitches for several of the characters, and her non-chipmunk voices, though less-grating, were also not great.

I don't understand why this series relied so heavily on using female narrators when the focus of the books seems to be on the seven werewolf brothers (one brother for each book). While dual narrators are often great to have, I realize it's not always possible. In my experience there is a much smaller pool of female narrators who can convincingly do decent male voices than there are male narrators who can do convincing female voices that don't totally pull me out of the story. Unfortunately this series as a whole on audio suffers from a lot of mediocre and down right awful narration.

'Alpha' features eldest Caldwell brother (and pack alpha) Brody and his blossoming romance with ex-Austin, Texas pack alpha London Blake. I've not been a fan of Brody in the other books, but he was likeable in his own book, of course. I actually think this is one of the strengths of this series and how well written the characters themselves are. We get to see how differently they are perceived through the eyes of the other characters. I hated Brody in Ethan's book 'Crave'. I never really fully warmed up to him before this book as he was still an absolute jerk to Topher in 'Bound' and he never really apologized for his bad behavior when Topher's truths were uncovered and he was vindicated. He's too much of a pompous ass to ever admit wrong-doing. In his own book though we do get a sense of some of his own struggles, but I go right back to not liking him in later books. He's too much like his father I guess, whom I hate even more.

The real excitement of this book is the rapidly developing storyline that kicks off when we learn that an assassination attempt was made on their uncle, Guillermo Montemayor, and the suspect is their brother River Caldwell. None of them really believe that River would have really done it, and as they try to collect evidence of his innocence, attempts start to be made on their lives as well. They begin to question if their own uncle is trying to have them killed. At one point Sofia directly accuses her brother of sending men to kill them, and even though he denies it, I'm not sure she believes him at first. This scene stands out as really important to me, and it's a dynamic I wish River would learn from in the future, and unfortunately, I don't think he ever does. The Council are lying liars. As Sofia said herself, her brother lies, that's what he does. So does her son, but she always seems to be able to excuse that away.

Anyway, the family dynamics in this series is what makes it so good. The storyline is really good as well, but the characterizations, multiple points of view, and family interactions elevate it beyond your average genre storytelling, especially in these later books in the series.

I love this couple and their precious dogs. They really get each other, as both are Alphas for seperate packs. Brody is trying to lead while keeping his family/pack together and help London try to clear her name. The plot is complicated and this is not stand-alone. It is a fun story, unfortunately the narrator does sound robotic for some of the characters.
