Publisher's summary

Every now and then, when all the planets are in proper alignment, fate smiles on one lone warrior.

Hope

Earth is no longer able to support human life, and trying to scratch out a meager existence is nearly impossible. Hope is reluctantly forced to sign up for the intergalactic brides program. Just as she’s getting desperate, she finds a tolerable species willing to purchase her contract.

Because nothing is ever that easy, her ship get hit by raiders, and Hope can’t manage keep her big mouth shut when their alien captors begin tormenting one of the younger women.

Jettisoned into space, her one and only chance at survival is in the hands of a Draconian warrior.

Larok

Larok is a lone sentinel, standing guard for his mother ship. When he comes across a frail human queen, his world tilts out of alignment. Saving her means a nasty death if his vicious Draconian queen finds out he rescued her. Risking his own life is one thing, but risking the life of his entire family and small son is another.

Snagging the beautiful human out of harm’s way results in battling against the Draconian fleet, destroying a planet, and stealing a wormhole device that's their only chance at escape, Larok finds himself forced to reach his hand into the dragon’s mouth, desperate to pull victory from the jaws of defeat.

By the time it’s all finished, he will either die in the glorious battle of a lifetime or end up mated to the most attractive human female in the galaxy.

Good Story

I love Juno Wells, This was a good story about Hope and Larok. Hope is a human who volunteered for the bride program, on her way to her new world her ship was attacked. As one of the attackers starts in on a younger women, Hope yells at him to leave her alone, and so they jettisoned hope into space. Hope is saved by Larok a Draconian Warrior and the adventure begins. Narrators David Reed and Lesley Braun did a great job with the story and characters.

great book bad reader

I love these books. I have all of them. but the guy who read them uses an inflection that makes everything sound like a question. Even when a statement should be there. it is truly horrific to listen to him and destroyed my perception of the book.

good story, eh narration

The story was pretty good. if you enjoy alien/sci-fi romance stories, this one is pretty good. it was especially interesting to read of an alien species where women are dominant. It was a nice change compared to the usual alpha male alien series (nothing wrong with alpha males, just nice to have some variety).

My issue is with the narration. The female narrator is good, but the guy drives me nuts. His deep voice is ok, but his phrasing and intonation are horrific. it completely grated on my nerves to hear him end every phrase, not just sentence, but phrase, with an upward lilt to his voice. Also, his phrasing sometimes made it difficult to tell when he had moved to another sentence, making a lot of the story sound like run-on sentences. It was bad enough for me not to finish listening to the book, and I ended up finishing it on kindle instead. I would totally support having this book re-recorded with a different male narrator. If they record the rest of the series, which I hope they do, PLEASE use a different male narrator!!!!

The Narration Could Be Better

I'm being very forgiving with this Audiobook because I like the original, actually the whole series. But I already knew that I liked the story when starting the audiobook because I read the original or I may have felt differently. If I had not already known where the story was going and that it would be worth it I may not have continued listening to the narration because it is not good. It is however not the worst narration I've heard on Audible so I'm forgiving a little for that as well.

It is the only book in the series with audio narration so it's hard to encourage people to overlook the narration with a promise that the series as a whole is worth it. It is a great series though so I do recommend the Kindle version which is free with Kindle Unlimited and inexpensive to buy outright. Maybe later other books in the series will be available on Audible but as a single book on it's own it's probably not worth it.

Do read the Kindle version though.

Larok and Hope

This type of storyline was very different than the normal and it was a great listen. The alien world laid out is where women rule the men type scenario. It was awesome to see the transition from the way of life as they knew it to after the human women come into play and change things up. The ending was great. It made me look into more of the series. David and Lesley do a great job.

Horrible narration

I couldn’t get past the first chapter. Please sample the audio before buying. I made the mistake of blindly paying for it. Male narrator has to be new and apparently didn’t read the book first. Inflections, etc were awful. The story is probably really good. I’ll have to try and read it but I can’t listen to it.

No

This so bad in so meany ways. I laugh because it was so bad, even if the got the best narrator. The first 4 chapters was complete agony.. I listen because I just couldn’t believe how bad it is/was. Grimm is WAY better.
