Publisher's summary

He's trying to forget....

Alex Stewart, ex-Marine and tough-as-nails boss of the fledgling covert surveillance company, The TEAM, ditches his success and flees to his cabin in the deep woods. He's had enough. Four years after the deaths of his wife and daughter, he's been stuck in the anger stage of grief. Life used to make sense.

Not any more.

She's trying to remember....

Left to die in those same deep woods, Kelsey is the last thing Alex expects to find at his cabin. She's everything he's running from. Responsibility. Memories. Having to care about someone who could hurt him. To make matters worse, she can't remember her name. Neither can she explain the marks on her body, nor why two darling baby boys haunt her dreams.

But Alex can....

Great romantic suspense

This was a well narrated and entertaining audiobook, with the story of 2 people who experience the worst losses imaginable and find each other by accident. I highly recommend this first book in a series!

Good story premise but story doesn't quite do it

Would you try another book from Irish Winters and/or Troy Duran?

I'd be hard pressed to want to try another book with this narrator or author. The story was appeared to be finished about half way through, but it kept going. It held on for longer than I think it should have.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Troy Duran?

He did a good job narrating, but the variation on the voices weren't very dimensional. I would try another book, but I'm hesitant.

Could you see Alex being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, it's not exactly movie material.

What a tender story

I loved this book. There was a perfect amount of real life drama and a real life savior to make this story really speak to your heart.

The PTSD warning attached to this story was a good choice. This story truly struck home and I had to skip past some parts of this book. Making it personal only addad to the story. though it was triggering it was also encouraging Iin a real believable kind of way not a fairytail.

I'd definitely recommend this book.

Hooked from the 1st chapter

What made the experience of listening to Alex the most enjoyable?

Troy brings the characters to life with his narration, his voice is amazing no matter the gender or ethnicity of the character. I forget that it's only him narrating throughout the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alex?

Even though it's Alex's story, I love watching the relationship between Harley and Kelsey.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Kelsey remembers what happened, it feels like you're right there with her. It's heart-wrenching and you just want to hug her through the pages of the book.

Any additional comments?

This story keeps you on your toes the entire time. You're kept wondering what happened to Kelsey's children, and what her husband is truly capable of. It's amazing journey to go on with the characters, and it gets you hooked for the rest of the series!

Very Poignant Story

This story is well written. A word of caution this story is not for those who are grieving the loss of a partner or children.
For all others this story does have a happy ending. It shows what the life of those who have suffered loss. It is not gloom and doom. It may help the readers empathize those who have suffered loss.

Kind of the average romantic suspense

This was a clean romantic suspenseful book. I got this book for free so I have to say it was worth the money. If I had bought it I don’t think so. It had a happy ending. It was also older than I thought. They referenced the Vietnam war which to me right there ages the story. Narration was good.

A lot more than expected

I didn’t have much expectations for this book. I knew there would be some military/para-military stuff, a touch of violence, a damsel in distress saved by an alpha male. It starts just like that, with Alex taking care of a wounded stranger, Kelsey, and then a bit of military-like action. But it’s just the first part of the story. There was a lot more.

A reflection on grief, first. After they save each other in a way, Kelsey and Alex find themselves in a similar situation, with Alex dealing with the loss of his wife and kid for several years already. He then can help Kelsey, since he understands how she feels. That was a strong cement for deeper emotions–yes, there was already a little attraction between them.

The domesticity was another compelling element. While living under the same roof, they establish a routine and become some sort of couple without even dating–neither of them is ready for a relationship at that point. But that doesn’t mean they don’t like each other a lot.

The romance, while not exactly hot, was still sexy, and I really liked the support they offer each other. Respect, affection, understanding, support, and intimacy: they had all the ingredients to make a good relationship. So, of course, the story doesn’t end here. But I won’t say more, you’ll have to read it. Just know that they’ll have to face more pain and heartache before they get their happily ever after.

The narration was good. I’d have liked it more in dual narration, since the male narrator’s voice didn’t always fit Kelsey’s emotions, but he’s a pro and does a wonderful job telling the story.

If you want a sniper covert action, not this book, it's a romance type novel.

Great start of a series

Okay, I didn't start Irish Winters' sniper series from the beginning. That truly shows the fact that the books are stand alone and can be read in any order.

After reading the blurb, I decided to hold off on ALEX as it warned the reader about the sensitive topic of wife abuse and I didn't want to get a heavy emotional book.

When I did go back and read ALEX, I got the gut wrenching emotions but I also got more incite into what made Alex develop as a strong character for this series.

Alex was my first audio book and I know I will collect the whole series on kindle and audio versions.

The narrator is very good and makes the story come to life. I admit th as t I've listened to Alex more than once.

Stunning

What a fantastic listen!

For the record, I chew through audio books rapidly. I average around 20 a month.
This one was my first exposure to both the author and the narrator, I will most assuredly be going back to continue the tale.

Romance themed novel often take such a predictable path. There is a specific formula that has been proven over and over again. Meet up and call in love, short period of perfection, major drama leads to break up, get back together and happily ever after. And while that may be to roots of this book as well, the journey is emotional, empathetic, thought provoking, and real.

Definitely worth your credit, and your valuable time.

Kudos to Troy on the amazing narration!
