Special Agents of the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) have been on the front lines of securing diplomacy for over a century. From the Fall of Saigon to the U.S. embassy bombings in east Africa, and the Iranian Hostage Crisis to the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, special agents of the DSS have relentlessly put their lives on the line to protect their fellow diplomats around the globe. Agents Unknown reveals the story of Cody Perron, a former Special Agent of the DSS, and his journey through the Middle East and Southeast Asia, negotiating international fugitive returns, interviewing ISIS hostages, and protecting the highest level U.S. government officials in some of the most volatile places in the world. Raw and unfiltered, Perron offers the perspective of a ground level agent revealing the unconventional duties and accomplishments as one of many “agents unknown."

As someone who’s in college for Homeland Security and wanting to obtain the Clark DS fellowship that the US Department of State offers working for DSS, I just want to say thank you to Cody. This was an outstanding insight on what it’s like in the world of a diplomatic security agent.

Cody Perron has clearly seen some things in his time as a special agent, but he tells his story in a very relatable way. The descriptions of people, places, and modes of transportation all help the reader feel like they are standing in the middle of the scene. It's incredible to think that one person could experience so much throughout a short career, and the book is definitely required reading for anyone interested in the work of one of the most little-known federal law enforcement agencies.

I've listened to around 100 audiobooks, and am always skeptical when a book is narrated by the author instead of a professional voice actor. In Cody's case, however, he is an absolute natural story teller and the audio version would never be the same without his subtle Cajun twang. Hearing his voice gives that extra dimension to the book, filling it with just enough emotion and really nailing the little quips and asides. I believe this was his first venture in voiceover work, and he did a fantastic job. I absolutely recommend listening to Agents Unknown.

Cody is a great storyteller, and gives a first hand account of what it’s like to serve in the DSS. His tale of adventure, camaraderie and snacks around the world, are what make his story relatable and real. Highly recommend!

Great firsthand account of the DSS

Story and narrator were effective in portraying the experiences of the author (also the narrator). I love it when the author narrates their book, especially when it is their own personal story. This book gives great insight into a world I know little about. I highly recommend this book to anyone. Listen to some highly enjoyable stories and hopefully come away with a greater perspective of the world and how we are kept safe. Will there be a sequel soon??
