Publisher's Summary

At the age of nine, Jamie's family feared he would never walk again. Twenty years later, he set off to run 5,000 miles coast to coast across Canada.

When Jamie decided to repay the hospitals that saved his life as a child, he embarked on the biggest challenge of his life: running the equivalent of 200 marathons back to back, solo and unsupported, in 40 degree weather, surviving all kinds of injuries and traumas on the road and wearing through 13 pairs of trainers. And he did it all dressed as the superhero the Flash.

Though his journey was both mentally and physically exhausting, it was the astounding acts of kindness and hospitality he encountered along the way that kept him going. Whether they gave him a bed for the night, food for the journey, a donation to his charity or companionship and encouragement during the long days of running, Jamie soon came to realise that every person who helped him towards his goal was a superhero, too.

Worth a read

Is this book a remarkable piece of literature? No, it's disjointed and the characters are in and out in a moment. No real connections. BUT what the author accomplished which he recounts in the book is incredible. It was very touching to hear how people responded to his efforts.

The title says it all!

An honestly written tale of an incredible adventure of epic inspirational proportions. I couldn't stop listening and Jamie's story has really encouraged me to realise that my adventurous ideas and dreams are possible. I ran for the longest time I've ever run listening to this book. Thank you Jamie for sharing your adventure, and Will for narrating it so well.

inspirational

funny irreverent awesome book. narrators acents were weird tho. giving the writer from Gloucestershire a Dorset accent and a lot of Canadians Irish accents. nother the less a book that I greatly enjoyed for it's honesty even when ugly. it's humour and the serious message that we all can achieve far more than what both we believe and what society thinks about us

Not the best adventure book I’ve listened to

Inspirational yes, but also a bit repetitive, boring and sometimes verging on self-aggrandising. This was a nice story but I felt like there isn’t much of a story to fill a whole book. So it gets a bit boring after a while with all the “I did this… then they said that… then I ran a bit more…”. I love adventure books but not when they are focused on how much the writer helps others, and how much they achieve this and that. These books are usually about soul-searching, not self-promotion. Although, having said this, I of course applaud the cause behind this adventure. I just wished he talked less about how people thanked and praised him and more about the adventure itself.

What a driven and crazy guy

A very enjoyable book, his visit to the town of dildo in Canada has been an inspiration for our next family adventure. He is certainly one of a special breed of people who push the limits of endurance and his story of crossing Canada with no real plan is interesting and courageous. The star of the book are all the people who helped him along the way. Well done Canadian people and oily fish!

Another awesome adventurer

I'd read and listened to every Anna Macduff story and came across Jamie's book for Anna mentioning her crazy Gloucester man. I'm really glad I did. Jamie's tale has been the soundtrack to my last 6wks of marathon training (1st time) and he's helped the miles fly past and motivated me to dig deeper when it felt beyond reach. It's hard to justify stopping in the dry, sunny Norfolk countryside when Jamie is traversing the mountains in winter. Can't wait to hear about the next adventure. Only thing missing from the audio is a Gloucester accent 😀
