Story
It's October 1814. London suddenly finds itself in the grip of a series of heinous murders eerily similar to the Ratcliffe Highway murders of three years before. In 1811, two entire families were viciously murdered in their homes. A suspect - a young seaman named John Williams - was arrested. But before he could be brought to trial, Williams hanged himself in his cell. The murders ceased. But when the lead investigator is killed in the same brutal way three years later and others possibly connected to the original case meet violent ends, the city is paralyzed with terror once more.

Publisher's Summary
Edinburgh, Scotland. March 1832. Kiera and Gage have been eagerly awaiting their bundle of joy but trouble has been brewing in the form of the roguish criminal Bonnie Brock Kincaid. A new book and subsequent play features some of Kincaid's daringly heinous exploits, although he swears he had nothing to do with it or the characters which are obvious representations of Kiera and Gage. While the scoundrel's fury seems genuine, as well as his determined quest to uncover the real identity of the author, the Gages still hold doubts about his innocence.
A rash of crimes break out across the city, seemingly inspired by the play and book. When the publisher is found brutally murdered - in an imitation of a gruesome scene - the finger not only points to Bonnie Brock as the possible culprit, but also the Gages, who have been outspoken in their condemnation of the tale. Now, the Gages are on a hunt to unmask the killer. Between the infamy garnered by the play, the cholera outbreak still wreaking havoc throughout the city, and the impending birth of their child, they will need all the resources they can garner.

Great continuation of series
I've enjoyed the previous books in this series and have listened to them all multiple times. I love Anna Lee Huber's books because they are an escape. There are problems for the characters to overcome, but there is always a sense of support and friendship. The language is clean and it's a nice sit back and enjoy the ride kind of book for me. This flowed similarly to the other books. I love to watch the progression of secondary characters throughout the series. Heather Wilds is Kiera to me now and she did a great job with this latest book. I can't wait for the next one!

Keira and Gage persist in crime solving despite her growing belly. Set in early 19th century Scotland the politics if the time contribute to the intrigue revealing secret brothers and relationships to unsavory ancestors. The narration is easy to listen to despite the fast paced tale

Best Lady Darby Book!!!
They just keep getting better and better! The only thing bad about Lady Darby book is the wait for the next! Attention to detail in the story telling the story brings the listener in the scenes. The narration by Heather wild is also amazing! The life that both the writing and the narration bring to the characters is five star! Well done!!
