Publisher's summary

The devil you know is never the one you should trust.

Special Agent Patrick Collins is dispatched to Chicago, chasing a lead on the Morrigan’s staff for the joint task force. Needing a cover for his presence in the Windy City, Patrick is ordered to investigate a politician running for mayor. In the lead up to Election Day, not everything is what it seems in a city where playing to win means appeasing the gods first and the electorate second.

But Chicago brings its own set of problems outside the case: a standoffish local god pack, a missing immortal, and Patrick’s twin sister. Fighting Hannah and the Dominion Sect provides Patrick with a sinister reminder that some blood ties can never be cut.

Left behind in New York City, Jonothon de Vere finds himself targeted by hunters who will go through anyone to kill him - including the packs under his protection. With a bounty on his head, Jono is forced to make a choice that Patrick would never approve of. Doing so risks breaking the trust he’s built with the man he loves, but not acting will give the rival New York City god pack leverage Jono can’t afford to give up.

When Patrick and Jono reunite in Chicago, Patrick must confront the fraying of a relationship he’s come to rely on for his own sanity. But fixing their personal problems will have to wait - because Niflheim is clawing at the shores of Lake Michigan and the dead are hungry.

A Vigil in the Mourning is a 102,000 word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Crown of Iron & Silver. Listening the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

Not when I have you

Boy oh boy, is this book even more action packed or what?!?! Our boys are on a new adventure of their lives. Patrick is in Chicago for a new case for SOA and he’s also working for another one for Norn’s. He’s one busy detective and as always, upon his arrival to Chicago, he realized that he has one again bitten more than he can chew off. Meanwhile, Jono is back on New York facing his own problems. Knight Hunter’s has targeted him as their next project and they won’t relent and stop until he dies. And as always, Patrick is being kept in the dark by Jono and imagine how furious he’ll be when he finally finds out.

I mean this book is one exciting, action-packed and smooth read. We see the stronger bond between Jono and Patrick as well as how exciting this whole scenario is. I swear I’ll never get enough of these adrenaline filled and blood pumping battles and I love how trusting and loving Jono and Patrick are towards each other. And I love my darling Wade. He’s just so precious! All in all, loved the whole book and I’m counting the days when I’ll get next book in series on audio. Also, Gary Furlong did a spectacular job performing bff of the story. Gary you rock! 😉❤️

PATRICK AND JONO! LOVE THIS SERIES!

After reading and listening to the first book in this series there was no way I was going to miss any additional books! So . . . I have purchased and listened to books 1 through 5 so far and have enjoyed all of them.

Some of the reviewers have not cared much for the narrator . . . I found that he is perfect for this series!

This entire series will be a re-listen for me.

I highly recommend!

Twists, turns and hard choices

It's February and the case Patrick is handling this time takes him to Chicago where the Norse Pantheon is making his life hard.

This time Patrick doesn't promise his life to anyone BUT it's time for Jono to make some unwise choices ending up with him getting hurt and not being completely healed when Patrick calls him and asks Jono to go to him because Patrick needs him. That's something that Patrick discovers when Eir, one of the Valkyries, asks Jono if he wants her to heal him. Once Patrick learns how and with what he got hurt the have their first fight which is an epic one. And that is the point where some of the insecurities in their relationship for both parties come forward and will be completely healed close to the end of the book with a major breakthrough from Patrick's side.

The pack advances in alliances throughout the story both in NY and Chicago, Patrick is going through the ringer when he discovers that there's still the smallest of connection in his soul between him and his twin and also from what he discovers when he examines a ritual involving her.

Twists, turns and hard choices are what is following him and the ones that have become his family.

And of course Gary Furlong FTW!!!

P.S.: Hailey loves her gore!

Love this!

A Vigil in the Mourning is book 4 in the Soulbound series and should be enjoyed in order. If you enjoy urban fantasy you don't want to miss this amazing series. In this book the relationship between Patrick and Jono is tested, boundaries are crossed and Wade just can't get enough to eat. There is so much going on but it's not hard to follow. Narrator Gary Furlong does an absolutely amazing job in bringing the characters to life. I highly recommend this amazing book and series.

wow

Said this before and will say it again this series gets better with each and every addition!
Frigging Norse gods are even more of a pain than was expecting them to be. Patrick is taken to Chicago for work, and when his past once again catches up with him, he calls Jono in for help (see growth). Meanwhile, back in New York, Jono is having trouble with his own poor decisions are made that will affect all of the God pack. The tale becomes more and more entwined with each book with a peaceful ending, not in sight yet. And for one, I can't wait to keep going to see if and when they do find it.

Gary Furlong once again brings these books to life cannot even begin to say how much I love these

Masterful ending to an epic scale series

When I purchased Book 1of this series, It was based on a few prior listening experiences with narrator Gary Furlong whose high quality narrations I really enjoyed. Therefore, I expected a decent story from Hailey Turner whom I had not read yet since Gary Furlong seemed to me to always be paired with quality story writers in LGBTQ Romance and Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Well, not only was Book 1 a wonderfully imaginative and satisfying story masterfully narrated by Gary Furlong but this entire Series just kept drawing me in deeper and deeper through Books 2-6. Each of the books in the series skillfully develops the main characters and progresses the main plot while adding new characters and unique plots which cumulatively builds the Series into a fully epochal heroes tale. A tale that needed an appropriately grand ending!

Since the first 6 books are each so individually excellent, I have often re-listened to them as I impatiently awaited release of the final Book 7 on October 1st. I freely admit that I was so deeply invested Intellectually into the story and emotionally into the characters that I set some extremely high expectations on Hailey Turner’s storytelling skills and Gary Furlong’s narration skills for delivering a concluding story fully deserving for this outstandingly series. I am so grateful that both of these awesomely talented professionals so masterfully surpassed these high expectations in A Veiled and Hallowed Eve - Book 7. Hailey Turner earned my even greater respect for her imaginative and sensitive story writing. I am equally awestruck with respect how Gary Furlong narrated the final story in such a consistently poignant manner given the narration of such a large and complex volume of characters.

I dedicated October 1st listening to A Veiled and Hallowed Eve - Book 7 in its entirety. As the final book of the Soulbound Series, Hailey Turner creates once again a fully believable mortal, immortal and magical world. All of her characters (be they major, minor, or incidental - good or evil) are carefully described and fully contribute to the story. There is no waste or “fluff” regarding their role within the story. The same precise skill also applies to the scenes throughout. The cumulative scope of the series is epic therefore one must acknowledge that Hailey Turner demonstrates genuinely expert skills in writing the characters and scenes so precisely in order to so successfully achieve the grand scale of her epic story without losing the exciting pace of the series from beginning to end. Due to this grand scale, equal acknowledgment of expert narration skills must be given to Gary Furlong. His range of voice is impressive. Despite the huge volume of character dialogue, he narrates with such consistency and sensitivity that he truly adds a uniquely valuable dimension to the audio Series books which will of course be missing in any non-audio format.

While I will not offer any spoilers, I will say that there were some surprises woven into a richly exciting story that more than fully completed the various closures needed from preceding books. Admittedly, I cried often and sincerely throughout as the story drew to its final ending. So most assuredly A Veiled and Hallowed Eve - Book 7 is a “Heavens -vs Hells” story but it is the grand conclusion to a fresh, exciting and richly dimensional Soulbound Series that I highly recommend.

Can’t think of any further praise to recommend this book as well as the entire series except perhaps to selfishly wish that the were more stories and the series could have kept going on - they are genuinely that outstanding!

Performance?

My only issue is that several instances they got the wrong voices. It sort of takes you out of things when you hear another characters voice.

So Good

As always an fantastic book, for a awesome series, by a great author....
Patrick and Jono are separated for most of the book, but they each have trials they must overcome. Patrick has Gods, Goddesses, his crazy father to deal with. While Jono has the rival God pack, demon/hunters, and the nightcourts to deal with.
With new and old, enemies and friends alike this is as action packed as all her books.

Gary Furlong did an excellent job as always bringing these characters to life.

It just keeps getting better!

I (im)patiently waiting for this book to come out on audio. I've read the ebook version and I knew the audio version would take the action to the next level. I was not disappointed. Patrick was out of town for work this time and Wade came with him. I adore Wade more each book, but in this one, he really showed his badass side. Jono, strong and Patrick's rock, as always. I just love the two of them together. They keep getting stronger, their pack as well. Hailey did amazing with the battle scene in this book. It's so good, I felt bad for the city of Chicago!
I can't wait for more adventures of Patrick and Jono and I keep hoping that maybe in the next book, Patrick will say 'it' back to Jono. It's a thing now for me.
Gary Furlong definitely brought this book to life!
