Publisher's summary

At the lush Villa Calypso on the French Riviera, a dying billionaire launches a devious plan: at midnight each day he appoints a new heir to his vast fortune. If he dies within 24 hours, that person takes it all. If not, their chance is gone forever. Yet these are no ordinary beneficiaries, these are men who crossed him, women who deceived him and distant relations intent on reclaiming the family fortune. All are determined to lend death a hand and outwit their rivals, and retired Scotland Yard detective Jasper, in pursuit of the prize.

Entertaining

Okay, so I sort of fell into this one - a murder mystery with Gordon Griffin as the narrator. The story unravels like onion peels. You think you have it, then there’s a new twist, another little revelation. It isn’t complicated as such, but rather, like a conjuring trick or a sleight of hand; several of these. Numerous characters and backstories and therefore so many, many possibilities. Forgive my daring to draw a parallel, but something like the game, Clue. It was fun. I am sufficiently intrigued to give the second in the series a listen. And Mr. Griffin did not fail to impress.

Sleep will follow this book!

I really wanted to like this book but gave up midway. Gordon Griffin is a favorite narrator. Here it seemed like he was reading full sentences stopping at each period just as we did in second grade!

The characters were all stereotypical and boring, not to mention unlikeable. In more than 3 hours listening nothing had taken place. No mystery. Skip this one.

Tightly Woven Tapestry Of Suspects

What Not To Do When All Your Family Cares About Is Money

An Agatha Christie-esque tale of unsavory, money hungry people who gather together in hope of being the one selected in a dying man’s will & thereby becoming incredibly wealthy. But not everything or everyone is as they seem. The characters are well written so that you love to hate them, there are plenty of twists and turns, and the deductive reasoning of the inspector would have made Hercule Poirot proud!

Fantastic narration adds to the feel of the story. A total pleasure to listen to!

Couldn’t finish

I didn’t get far into this book. I simply could not stand it. The narration was fine but the characters were too ugly. I wish to return it.
